See, I never have been successful trying to surface detail to date and it’s just been so easy to blow off the task. I went with aluminum tape which takes detail so much better than primer or putty. These were made with some punch I bought years ago. this approach looks nice for access panels. (below are not final but more or less proof of concept work).
