alberto49
The Italian Co-belligerent Airforce was born in Southern Italy after September 1943 armistice signed between the Kingdom of Italy and the Allies. They started war activity in the Balkans mainly using Italian made aircraft found in southern Italy airports on that date but soon they needed replacements. So in June 1944 170 P-39, formerly belonging to 332nf FG were delivered to Italians in Campo Vesuvio Airstrip (near Neaples). Among them only 149 were rendered airworthy and actually employed in action. I decided to replicate one of those machines using the Special Hobby kit plus some resin CMK add-ons to detail the gun bay, the engine and landing gear. This is the profile I'have in mind To install those CMK items I had first to do some "plastic surgery" Also added some lead shots in the front part of the main wing. More to follow soon. alberto49
Later I started working on items to be fit inside the cockpit and the gun bay. and the engine Then a dry fit to see how they go together.
alberto49
Finally, but for the time being only, fuselage was glued, puttied where necessary and sanded, so I was in position to arrange all components. dora9
alberto49
Pilot seat is done but not installed because I've to do safety belts first. I also glued in position some tail detailing items from Eduard. That's all for the time being, I hope you like it. alberto49
Wings glued to the fuselage yesterday, not without some "marriage" problems, but I have no pictures to show unfortunately. I will take and post them in a week time when I will be back home. Alberto Edited December 27, 2014 by alberto49
dennismcc
Looking good, I remember building one of these and remember that the wing air intakes took quite a bit of work, and the nose wheel was a bit fiddley, but a nice build. alberto49
I finally have some pictures available, so I can update this thread. Glued wings to the fuselage, some putty was needed to level the joints; still to be sanded here: Canopy painted inside and glued in place. Same for car doors, but these were just fixed with a drop of white glue, so they will be easily removed afterwords. Joints sanded. Grey primer on everything Now working on masks to be used to spray upper and lower colour (Olive Drab and neutral grey) leaving the print of american roundels that will be covered with a similar Italian colour. Mask to be used for Italian roundel as well. Instead these are decals made on request for me that I just received: I hope you like my work so far.
