LSP_Ron
I agree, I missed this thread as it originated while I was traveling. Great solutions like the blue tac for cutting the canopy, luv it. Overall very precise and nice work Ron
ericg
So after a short break I am back into this interesting machine. Looking through the few reference pics that I have of the real thing, I noticed that it has a high gloss finish. See the reflection of the vertical fins and along the prop shaft on the right side: I have set about to re-create this finish and am using Gunze Midnight blue. I added some drops of white to the mix as this paint is very dark and i wanted it to not look too black! The dilema that I faced was how could I hold this model and stop it from getting fingerprints and other stuff on it once painted and in the process of drying. I rigged up an overhead hoist that has allowed me to rotate and position the model without having to put it down. Once finished painting I just pull the line and the model dissappears up near the ceiling! And here it is! I have been experimenting on one of the stabilizers with some polishing compound and the dremel to give it even more shine. Uncarina
Eric, The build and finish are amazing so far! Did you get the shine pre-polish straight from the Gunze paint? Cheers, Tom
ericg
Hi Tom, Yes, the shine is straight from the airbrush. The polish hasn't really improved it that much. Eric
ericg
Some more progress and this one is almost over the finish line. The kit comes with two decal options for the star and bar, one with a navy circle around it and one without. I initially went for the star and bar without the navy circle as there are lots of pics of Corsairs marked as such. It just didn't look right so I went back and had a good look through my references and found a pic which I reckon confirmed that the aircraft had the full marking applied. Here are todays results. I am very lightly weathering inside the bays, more for depth than anything else. I preshaded/Painted then applied a wash. I figured that even though this was a prototype, it still would have seen alot of taxi runs and adjustment work in this area. I will be drybrushing inside the wells to bring out all of the raised details. A test fit, just to keep the end in sight. Back to its storage until next time (it reminds me of a bat like this) Lars Befring, Rainer Hoffmann, Uilleann and 1 other
David Hansen
I am amazed and smitten by its awesome weirdness. Those Vought Engineers were brilliant, although many times too clever by half. david

ericg
Here is some small updates in the progress of the machine, It is now standing on its own legs so to speak. I flattened the resin wheels by placing the model on top of a sheet of some rough grit sandpaper and then sliding the sandpaper around underneath the model on a flat surface, this has the effect of bringing all the wheels flat surfaces into alignment and ensures correct stance. Of course, the gear assemblies have to be very strong for this process. The next challenge was the wash. I have used Flory black wash to highlight the panel lines, but it is very hard to see once it is placed in position due to the very dark paint, and the glossy surface. The last thing I wanted was to miss wiping off some of the wash and then sealing the mistake in with the final clear coat, which will show the wash . The solution to this is to spray a coat of water over the model which will simulate the clear coat. This shows up the dark panel wash. With a panel wash applied (barely visible) With a coat of water (you can now see the wash, particularly around the engine panels) Getting there: Uilleann and Lars Befring
