Thanks once again folks...

I've been busying myself with a few more of the external details this week, and have made some good progress with the gear doors.

First up was the nose wheel doors. I used the doors I cut out from the fuselage earlier in the build, and made the inner skin from plasticard drilled with the appropriate lightening holes. The spares box was raided for the hinges:

When primed and painted, they were added to the nose:

I've also scratch built the small doors behind the main landing gear legs:

And painted and in situ:

The main gear doors are also complete, and will be installed once I've finished the final detailing in the main gear bays:

You can also see from the above picture that the elevators have been finished too and are ready for installation as and when.

More to follow...

Continued from above...

I've also added some more details to the engines - the reduction gear has been installed as well as some more detail to the cylinders themselves:

The tail skid was the next task - this was made from plastic card and detailed withe Evergreen strip. The hydraulic actuator/shock absorber was courtesy of the spares box once again (modified motorcycle shock absorbers!) and does the trick nicely:

The Kee Bird also had the rubber de-icing boots on the leading edges of all her flying surfaces, and I've managed to get these painted on too. Humbrol matt black was the paint of choice here, and once completely dry was micro-meshed into a lovely satin sheen which gives a good representation of the rubber used on the real aircraft.

These last two pictures show the de-icer boots to good effect, as well as a view of how the model currently stands:

It'll now be time to move on with the final detailing of the bomb-bay.

Until the next time...

Tom
