Take it easy Dennis

Further explanation of the drawing ...

First, the kit compression cylinders are represented in the unloaded position and so need to be shortened. If the legs weren't weighted and the tires flattened, they would wind up needing to be attacted to the top of the wing. Still doable but would require some extra futzing. The 200 / 202 / 205 all had the same gear so using aftermarket is highly recommended.

You are doing a great job fighting this kit into submission Dennis; I respect your determination and skill.  I hope you heal up quickly and can get back to using both hands soon.

All the best for a speedy recovery, Dennis!

Kev

Thenks Kev, the left is not too bad now after 3 months, so I will have to be patient, it tends to bite if I try to rush it.

Thanks Mike, with Italeri releasing more Macchis hopefully there will be some more AM to help me along, once my hand has healed a bit more that is.

Thank you Ernest, these kits so far have been worth saving, hope this one turns out as well, and yes it will be nice to have 2 hands again.

Cheers

Thanks Matt, plodding on but at least I can see a finished airframe coming very soon, the left hand is healing nicely so I hope the right hand goes the same way.

Cheers

I had 4 surgeries on my left hand between 2012-2016.  To make matters worse the surgeon damaged my left thumb during one surgery (but I forgive him because the results of his surgery far exceeded our expectations).  VERY FRUSTRATING as regards modeling!  Hang in there!

Thanks Mike, the left hand has healed beautifully and the scar is barely visible now after 3 months so hopefully this one will do the same.

Cheers

It is feeling pretty good for just 12 days after the operation, the swelling is going down and I am able to use it more every day, I just have to be careful what I ask of it otherwise it very loudly says Hi don't do that.

Thanks for that, the left hand is now nearly there, the right is playing catch up and is still a bit of a mess but it's only been 12 days since the operation.

Not for the faint hearted, right hand.

:o  Deja Vu!  Move that incision around to the top and right side of the first knuckle on the index finger and run it back to the center of he back of the hand and you have a good visual of one of mine.  But I didn't have joint replacement as you did.

Given that you are a modeler be sure to have the Physical Therapist introduce you to Hasbro's "Operation" game.  One uses very small tweezers to remove and replace very small pieces (organs, bones, etc.) from a make-believe body.  When I first saw it I thought it was a joke.  After 15 minutes of frustration dropping pieces and being unable to grasp pieces I understood the drill.  It is to re-learn dexterity.  The second, third and fourth times I next had to play the game I had great appreciation for it.

Yeah, I know that feeling.  Still getting messages like that from my wrist after four months.

Yes, Master.  Never again, Sir.

  • 3 weeks later...

Well the hands are working enough for me to continue mangling plastic, I think that the engine/cowl to fuselage join has been putting me off building this one so I sat down and thought about it for a while, Mike Maben gave me a steer earlier on in the thread so this is what I came up with.

Spacers to get the engine and cowl positioning right, note the three fuselage vents which I used to line up the cowling.

lJEppM.jpg

Stops in the cowling to position the engine for the prop hub to fit properly and keep it straight.

A bit crude but it works, it will look better with paint on.

The attachment piece on the fuselage took some fiddling to get it to fit nicely with the cowling, I had to flatten the area where it fitted on the fuselage with a file and bend it a bit. Below is the unbent version.

pkg5pM.jpg

A bit blurred but it fits, I lined the cowling edge up with three vents on the fuselage to get the cowling at the right angle.

Nothing is glued at the moment as I will paint the cowling and airframe separately.

Cheers
