Indeed, it was almost a guess, but: I recently visited a National Trust property near Newmarket, and recall a display about how the owner at the time, Lord Fairhaven, funded a presentation Spitfire. The standard donation was £5,000, so I reasoned from that.

Yeah, me too but much better than the “Lancaster” quiz, which actually was about the Dambusters (you’d think they were the only blokes to fly the Lanc) and not the marvellous plane itself.

It was a guess for me ,but I should've known the chief pilot though.
