It can be easily done with some plycard and milliput. I did one with the Hase E years ago.

The engine was different, but not visibly so.
The early "short tail" K had a much wider fin, not just a 'fillet'. This is the early K fin:
Compare that to the E fin (which was structurally the same as that used on the later "long tail" versions):
Hasegawa provided different parts for the aft fuselage/fin to cover the E, K and also the later "long tail" versions.

Unfortunately the short tail with a fillet was noticeably different and out of my memory such tail parts were only in the P-40K release.
