This is AMK's superlative 1/48 MiG-31BM/BSM special edition kit, with metal landing gear, photoetch, and extra decals. It was a buddy build with Tamiya's 1/48 Tomcat, and this was definitely the better kit in terms of detail, ease of assembly, and value for the cost ($67 US)--and that is something, considering how good the Tamiya kit is! Begemot decals, Eduard photoetch seatbelts, Fox-One canopy decals, and that was about it. This and the Tamiya Tomcat has been my first venture back into 1/48 in years, and they definitely take up less room! Cheers, Tom

This might be of use: https://glennhoovermodels.com/ov-10d.html Glen uses the Aeromaster set. Cheers, Tom

In fact, I am building that kit now, and it is at least equal to the Tamiya 1/48 Tomcat in fit and engineering, and better in terms of detail and quality/cost. It would be even more impressive in 1/32! Cheers, Tom

Just catching up. The cowling fit looks really good, and the figure is outstanding, especially considering the paint you used! Stellar work. Cheers, Tom

Matt, Not sure if you caught my response to your question, so I am reposting it here: The cowling fit was tricky for me as well. I recommend leaving the engine block unglued, so when you fit the cowlings the propeller shaft is trapped in a position that minimizes gaps between the cowling parts. Also, remove some of the plastic from the engine block above the exhausts, since this interferes with the upper cowling. Here is a recommended build sequence for adding the cowling pieces: 1. The N06/N09 assembly 2. N17/N18 3. N04/N05 4. N11 5. N10 (you can make this moveable btw if you drill a hole in the ductwork for the control rod D06 to fit in) 6. N02/N03 7. N16 I used Tamiya extra thin cement and taped the parts in place to squeeze them together. Hope this helps! Cheers, Tom

Brian, Great to know you are up and about! Hope you are doing well. Thanks for the recommendation about John W’s build. I have marveled at his work for years, but didn’t know he was working on the Nighthawk. Cheers, Tom -
Ryan, That is some beautiful detail! I am really enjoying watching your progress here, and thanks for the construction tips. I do like ZM kits, and this is the best build log of their Mustang I have seen. Cheers, Tom

Thanks Rob! I used Tamiya XF-3 yellow with a little XF-7 red added. Cheers, Tom
