    OK here we go.....

I think instead of doing any one aircraft linked to a specific aircrew I will try and keep it "somewhat" generic to honor all Misty FAC crews. I had considered Burt Rutan's aircraft but have not found any good photos of it. If someone might come across any I may reconsider but I kind of like the generic tribute.

I have been focused on the canopy frame. Using the limited photos of the frame available here is what I done. I have yet to decide if I will cover the exterior structural areas using the vac canopy or if I will build it up. Lots of conpound curves to contend with so I may use the vac canopy.

I have completed the center "yoke" and the forward vertical frame member that interfaces with the windscreen. I have also completed the primary structural componenets behind the aft seat. This area is "best" guess based on two photos neither of which provide good views.

The center yoke was craved from laminated .080 x .080 strips glued one atop the other then laminated front, back, top and bottom with .005 sheet. The forward frame "hoop" was fashioned out of .060 sheet for strength with a .010 x .080 strip attached around the inner surface. The hoop was then carved and sanded down to a .080 x .020 hoop.
This took a long, long time working very slowly to avoid breaking it.

I also used a styrene strip to attached to the windscreen for the "seal" surface for the frame.

    As always thanks for looking!

Someone recently quoted me in a 3d, currently i've not yet decided whether to scaled-up my Coleman in 48, I'm afraid it would cost too much because of the number of parts (which may even increase over 48 version ), we have to think well.

As for the Dash60 I am going to make my own version (in addition to already existing Verlinden), I just have yet to find a solution to the big air hose and some other small detail, the decals are already printed and will be available for the Verliden (does not have the decals).

I hope to provide news soon....

Thank you Teresa!! Pit is finished, dry fitted to the fuselage. Not much to see once installed. Will start on the fuselage halves next. I'm going to have airbrakes and gun door closed, will fit these before gluing fuselage together. After dryfitting i think i'll glue the respective front fuselage half to the rear half. Looking at the air intakes i see there is little to be seen of ductwork or front of engine. Might do a fast paint on these parts though i can see how ductwork can be added possibly simply.

Not much to show for this weekends efforts. I did get my workbench cleaned and got a little done but nothing worth snapping pics of yet. I must confess that I have lost my master for the F-4B/N Wheel & Tire that is what drove the massive clean up but it still eludes me.
I am just hoping I have not inadvertently thrown it away!!!!!

I did manage to get a drawing of what I have been able to decipher from the "very" few photos of the area behind the front seat. View is from aft looking forward at back of front armor plate without the aft IP and canopy cross brace depicted. Once the cross brace and guide rollers are in place not much else will be visible.

    Just a short update.

I needed a break from the cockpit so I built up the drop tanks using Harold's lengthened Nose Replacements. It took more time than I had thought. The kit tanks especially at the rear needed a LOT of work to get them looking respectable. I still need to do a little filling but managed to work the rest without filler. Then a lot of sanding and rescribing of panel seams again especially the aft two.

Harold recommends 5 min. epoxy and I highly recommed it as the attach joint would have never survived the sanding and handling otherwise!

    Hi Paul

I have given up the search but remain hopeful that it will turn up. Unfrunatly I did not find what I need in the manuals but I have book marked the site. I believe it will prove very useful for other "planned" projects, thanks for the link!!

I showed on the first page how I made the conversion.  I'm not sure how to list this build, is it a "Revellimaya" or a "Tamiyavell".  The Revell fuselage seems like its just a shell to hang all the resin and Tamiya parts on.

Barry reacted to Radub in Spitfires, stressed skin effect or not?
The "oil canning" is just an artefact of stress on the skin. The airframe is not rigid and in flight it flexes and twists to certain extents. That causes the "ripples" in the skin between the bulkheads, ribs and stringers.
Incidentally, a similar effect can be seen on boats.
One thing to keep in mind is that such effect visible on a plane in flight, especially when photographed doing a "stressful" manoeuvre, may not be visible on the same plane at rest.

    Hi Joe,

Not to Hi8-Jack you build thread but here are some photos of the Aires A-7D cockpit I am using in my A-7D build. I thought they might be helpful in determining what you wanted to use. As a former USAF A-7D maintainer IMO the Aires set is by far the best.
