Here's my completed 1/32 Revell FW-190 F-8 kit.  In addition to the base kit I also used HGW belts, Eaglecal decals,  Airscale decals and Eduard wheels.  A fun build but for anyone looking to build it themselves, watch out for the fit on the cowl.

    Thanks for looking.

Tim and I BSed with him at the pool later by happenstance, and may have convinced him to join LSP

Hi folks, drop your Nats pictures here or links to your folders.  I'll create a separate link for the PIMA tour for those of us who went.

Here are some of my pictures - of all scales but mostly 1/32 and some of the vendor area.  Apologies for the wrong white balance.

Vendor area was decent sized - but just one area (compared to Omaha last year where the vendors were in several rooms).  These pics were during set up.

Of the major manufacturers - it was Eduard, Special Hobby/CMK and Zoukie Mura.  Check out the LSP meeting pictures (separate thread) where the Pres of ZM and his son (doing the translation) came to visit us.  REALLY nice to see the support by all of these manufacturers, but esp ZM to come visit our meet and greet.  And holding their typical huge raffle.

Of the online shops - Squadron had a large area, but not nearly the stock they had in Omaha and SprueBrothers had a couple of simple tables - no stock, and were raffling off their T-Shirts.  Not the best showing.  Overall I think the vendor area was disappointing in quantity of vendors, quality of vendors (Eduard, SH and ZM excepted).  Show organization overall left something to be desired as well - the tours were not well managed including the culinary event a number of our club member's wives attended - two-two hour bus rides with no AC.  They were NOT pleased!

The Revell Mustangs did not go as fast as I thought they would.

And on to the planes!!  The 1/32 scale was very well represented, but I saw only Tamiya Mustangs - no Revell or ZM (but I might have missed them).

It was fantastic to see so many LSP'ers there and thanks to Mike and Brian and Tim for organizing our get together (and meeting so many of us on the PIMA tour as well).  Looking forward to Chattanooga in 2019.

    Hope you enjoy!

Time for the "old school" model from the 90s
Tornado ECR - Revell 1:32 model about which I can only say that it's time for a much better Tornado model on the market.

    Made straight from the box.

This is the first 1/144 scale kit I've built.  Even so, the wingspan is about 12 inches.  This was a test bed for working out a natural metal finish.  I used AK Interactive aluminum, dark aluminum, and polished aluminum colors with no clear coat.  Props done with a Molotow pen.  I also see that polishing the surface would give best results.  Has anyone tried clear coating the plastic to get a smooth surface without polishing before applying metallic colors?

Now first off before you watch this remember they only had rulers, pencils and fancy slide rules back in this time period. When I first saw this film I was amazed at how everything is used and how precision and places of the cuts. It's all done on a computer these days.

It is interesting to see these aircraft under different lighting conditions. I think the second picture shows a newer grey color painted on the AF-1 after it underwent a fleet wide upgrade program.

I know that the perception is that this kit is expensive, and, ok it is. But everything comes in one box, no need for after market. If for example you buy a Tamiya 1:32 scale "anything" and then add a resin cockpit, resin exhaust, resin wheels, decals..... I would venture to guess that you have exceeded the cost of this kit. If you want a Ford go for it. You won't be disappointed.

Gigant got a reaction from Dandiego in F4D....the Ford
As a builder, I would say for the following reasons:
The subject is not glamorized by any famous fighter pilots making any high-visibility kills. As a dedicated interceptor, the F4D was unsuited to the multi-mission capabilities soon in demand, so it had a short career in Navy and Marine Corps service. The Fisher kit's list price is  $259.85.  The Fisher kit is resin, in addition to being brittle, not a fun material to work with if you have to do any serious cutting, grinding, etc. If I were to try this lesser-known subject, I would start with the old Lindberg 1/48th kit, which lists for $14.99, although I am sure it wouldn't be an eye-grabbing show-piece like yours!

Just saw this live and in person yesterday! What a model! (although Dan's explanation of his work on the NATs card below his model was HIGHLY inaccurate, as under the description of Dan's work it simply read "nothing special") I have to say it was VERY spacial, and indeed stood out from the crowd for sure.

Another nice book arrived today. While it is hobby related (just not this particular hobby), I wanted to show it off anyway. Overall, this seems to be a quite excellent reference, and comes highly recommended.
