RAF FG.1 XV571 WILD HARE Phantom Conversion
Breaker replied to Anthony in NZ's topic in Works in Progress
Well, I've just been through all 114 pages. The Brit phantom has been a long term goal of mine for years and I'd read the other articles where all you do is ram a shim in here and there and bingo, you've got a Spey. Well that notion has been throughly disabused now. With all the references in this thread, I think a 3DP conversion could be done but you'd end up replacing the majority of the rear fuselage! Excellent work Anthony and well done not getting SoD fever with it. -

I used to think you were alright... Used to. -
Because it's clearly a prototype and not the actual finished product?

Hi Max, I'm planning on doing my hunter shortly and I'll be using your build as a reference. I like the work in the wheel wells especially and I'm glad to see that i'm not the only one disappointed with Kitsworlds offerings. I was consdering 3DPing a set of flaps for mine to try and give them a bit of pop similar to your well ribbing works. I was considering rivetting as well as my subject was quite heavily weathered and the rivets always help with the oil stage.

KSP models already do the towed decoy dispenser if your after them along with some other CJ upgrades.

I spent some time looking over mine and it appears Trumpeter based a lot of it off prototypes, cockpit especially compared to the in-service version. Cockpit closed is going to be a good idea.
-
I've got two on the way so if I bugger up the first one, I've got spares. If I don't touch it, I can drop you a message.
-
There's already replacement pylons on the market by Phase Hanger.

I've just pulled my A-10 out of storage and I planning on doing some 3DP updates for it to bring it up to -C standard. Almost all of the useful AM for the kit is out of production though, I've been working to build up the set for a while.

I've got a few different sheets of theirs and the quality levels between them vary massively. Their Tornado sheet I've got, the decals almost appear like 3D ones, they're really proud of the sheet. I contacted them and returned them for a different set but came back the same. Not been brave enough to try them yet. Yet, I've got a Lancaster set that looks excellent.
-
Possibly. I got my Revell hurricane from them super cheap recently.
-
£75 now strangely.

There's a guy in Serbia who you can buy them off. I've got several uprise sheets and they appear to be excellent. I'll do some testing with markings I won't be using tomorrow if I remember.

Max, I've been building the same kit myself recently, going as a MkIIb (LR) with some underwing fuel tanks. The thread has been really useful in building mine, I copied your use of the Anyz bolts on the armor plate as well.

Evening all, I'm looking at decals for a P-38 build and the majority of the attractive schemes I'm seeing are for J's. I'm a fast jet guy, so WWII is a grey area, it seems like the only visible difference is the dive brakes on the lower wings with nothing obvious for the boosted controls. Removing the raised panel on the bottom of the trumpeter kit wing should be enough. Can someone with more WWII knowledge let me know if I'm on the right track please? Thanks, Simon

How are you seeing a F-100 engine face, even in 32nd without a borescope?!
-
-
Nah, the pods aren't close, too skinny. EricGs thread on his E/A-18G or F/A-18F covers most of the Trumpeter induced silliness.
-
Hi Jan, fair enough that makes more sense! Thanks, Simon

New 1:32 F-4 Phantom Family Coming in 2022
Breaker replied to spruebrothers's topic in LSP Discussion
I'm a mechanical engineer based in light rail at the moment but part of my apprenticeship was CAD. I think I'm going to take on the Spey Phantom at some point provided I can source a decent 4k printer to do my own R&D. I can't justify it currently without owning a printer due to the test/fail cycle. -
Jan, I finally got round to using some of my F-15E parts recently and the instrument panels are made out of a different material to the rest of the cockpit sets which isn't as nice to use. Is there any reason for the softer/plyable black material compared to the harder grey material?

Mines just arrived this morning.
