Having a particular affection for them, I would suggest VMF-214 Black Sheep from just after Pappy got shot down.

    Copied from wikipedia article:

"VMF-214 was reformed on January 29, 1944 at Marine Corps Air Station Santa Barbara near Goleta, California. They deployed aboard the USS Franklin (CV-13) on February 4, 1945 to join on-going operations on Okinawa. On March 19, a Japanese bomber hit the USS Franklin. The explosion and resulting fire caused 772 deaths aboard the Franklin including 32 Black Sheep members. Many Black Sheep aircraft were launching for a strike on mainland Japan at the time. One, First Lieutenant Ken Linder, was given half credit for shooting down the Japanese bomber that struck the Franklin. This ended VMF-214 involvement in World War II. During the course of the war, the squadron suffered 23 pilots killed in action or missing and lost 48 aircraft to accidents or enemy contact."

    or the Korean war

"When the Korean War broke out, VMF-214 was en route to Hawaii on board the USS Badoeng Strait (CVE-116) hosting midshipmen from the Naval Academy. The squadron's commanding officer, Major Robert P. Keller, was summoned to headquarters in Hawaii where he met with then Colonel Victor Krulak. Krulak bluntly asked, "Major, are you ready to go to war?"

Flying eight F4U-4B Corsairs on August 3, 1950, VMF-214 became the first Marine squadron to see action in Korea, when they launched from the USS Sicily (CVE-118) and executed a raid against enemy installations near Inchon. After the F4Us delivered their incendiary bombs and rockets, they followed up with a series of strafing runs.[8][9] Flying from the USS Badoeng Strait (CVE-116) and the USS Boxer (CV-21), the Black Sheep completed two combat tours in Korea. They participated in key battles, including the Inchon landing and the UN's defeat and withdrawal from Chosin Reservoir. In these and others battles, they provided nearly continual air cover, interdicting supply and communication lines, and inflicting heavy damage on numerous ground emplacements, and enemy armor."

Great decision to take on a refreshingly simple build at the same time as a more extensive and challenging one, I have found that this is a great way to prevent losing steam and interest in the hobby. Splitting time between 2 projects brings a new kind of stimulation. The Walrus looks so ungainly and a bit odd that it becomes charming and interesting.

Been mentioning it in a few topics but here it is. Partially started with one or two parts glued together by the previous owner I was able to get it for a very good price (had to rearrange my financial priorities which I happily did) and naturally the AlleyCat conversion had to follow suit. Saw an electric motor for the Airfix Merlin at the same store and thought "game on", let's get this show on the road. A second motor was ordered because there was only one on the shelf which is why you see two different cards.

Which brings us to one of my problems that cause me to postpone the build until the right moment. Having seen the following video I want to do something similar and maybe find a way to wire in smoke cartridges at the same time, but how do I go about doing this?

My second problem, the radar interface unit for the cockpit is for the TR. Mk.37 but the supplied replacement nose cone for a Mk.33... need documentation and maybe measurements to scratchbuild either a TR 37 nose cone or a new radar interface unit, or be pointed to someone who has made a direct replacement.

    Thanks guys!

This one is a little unexpected for even me, but as they say, walking by it, this one just spoke to me. Ive got a real challenge ahead of me with all the paint work, detail work, and rigging but I think it will be fun, cause things just seem easier when your "in" to whatever you're building.

Second wing half just went on and is now drying, thank God the major work is almost finished now. Just need to tidy her up before paint and get the Armycast engine on at the proper angle and in the right position.

Like I said, flap indicator arm. No fancy blinkers like in today's cockpits.

Not exactly LSP but a truely genuine rarity. AEROPOXY made me dig this one from my stash when I happened upon his Avenger build, the hull was started a long time ago.

Having seen a couple of ship topics in here and having browsed through AEROPOXY's Dutch navy Avenger build (which made me dig the following kit from my stash), it looked like a good time to pull my Hr. Ms. Karel Doorman from the shelf again. The hull was started a long time ago.

    Government budget cuts eh

The base is Heller's Arromanches/Colossus kit with a few extras, it came to be with the combined effort of several people.

It does. However, the caveat with that being that it is still a vac canopy, and does not change its confidingly soft/bendable properties, and makes it no easier to deal with.

The MS klear does bond well to vac canopies. That being said, I have just now received my order for this:

I will subsequently be trying this out for attaching canopies as well as PE, so I will let all know after such trials.

Built this so far back I don't even remember. Revell 1:32 F-15 twoseater with fully operative navigation lights suite... ALL Revell, NO aftermarket! The reason you currently see it like this is that the weight of everything made the model go through it's landing gear, am wondering if the white metal gear struts are better up to the job.

It seems the earlier marks had it in silver and the later ones changed to green, no idea where the transition happened.

    Thanks Darren, Vandy...

Again, I'm flattered by the compliments and the suggestions regarding reproducing some of this work, say as part of an EA-6A conversion set.

Well it turns out I'm currently in talks with a prominent aftermarket supplier. The state of the project is quite preliminary at the moment, but, if all goes as planned, a high quality resin conversion set will hit the market later this year. So stay tuned!

Great work so far, the cockpit and figure look stunning. The use of silver in the area behind the seat has me wondering because in most pics I've seen that is green also.

Leonard's death was actually the catalyst for starting the build. It was meant to be quick and easy, but as usual, I've hit a few self-made snags along the way. Still, I like how it's coming together, and hope to have it done by the end of next weekend. And then, with any luck, I can kick this one along!
