PhilB got a reaction from Jeff T in Trumpy 1/32 F8F Thai AF Bearcat
Me too.
In my experience new members get the "vibe" pretty quickly but he has been on here since 2003 so it seems not.
Bit like digging up a dead body to tell them you don't like them.
First post on this one after 12 years was pure pedantry.
The second was condescending and patronising.
Perhaps he should have taken the time to look at Brian's builds detailed in his sig ?

“Hello pot? This is Kettle. Uh..you’re black”
If you are starting with a kit, and not scratch building the entire model, you are already using other peoples work…
funny huh?

I've won my category at the United States IPMS Nationals, if that's good enough for you?
I'm not sure where you going with all the italics here, but it takes all of about 15 min on this site to determine who builds what, why and how good any one modeler is. This build was to get me up to speed on foiling models for realism, when I was working with Ken F. Back 14 years ago when I did this I'd been back into modeling for about 12 months, and had little to no experience in up to date modeling methods and was brand new to the site, let alone having been invited to become a moderator at LSP.

Seriously?
Brian built this beautiful model back in 2009. The last post in this thread was 12 years ago-

I started this build back in May last year but only got round to putting on "WIP" some way into the build.

This is the Tamiya F-14A Black Knights kit. It is probably the biggest thing I've ever built.
I converted it to a "B" using:
Avionix/Black Box cockpit - Love those details but lousy instructions!
Aires exhausts - Brilliant!
Wolfpack wheels, and boarding ladder. I had the exhaust set as well but used the Aires in preference as its just so much better IMHO.
Drop of Eduard PE for the IP's and canopy interior.
Fine Molds turned brass "Plobes" Set (I kid you not) for the nose pitot and the small side sensor that draws blood if you are not careful.
Finally Eli's brilliant Zotz decals (OK there's the plug now get on with those B25 sets!!!!)
The kit needed a lot of work such as removing and rescribing the raised panel lines on the rear deck, and major surgery to get seamless intakes.
I also had to rescribe many of the panel lines from the rear of the cockpit backwards as they were either missing or in the wrong place.
I used Masa Narita's excellent build as a guide. Torsten Anft's site was a brilliant place for references and photo's.
Paints are mainly White Ensign but with Humbrol for the main top colour.
Enough of me blabbering on, no more explanations but plenty of photo's:
More to come!

Tanks !
Tanks a million!
What is sad is hovering over the member's avatars who commented on that thread and seeing how many haven't logged in here in years.
Also RIP to those no longer with us.
We need to get the band back together...................................

In a galaxy far, far away and many years ago I did this conversion using Avionix/Black box pit, Aires exhaust cans and a couple of bits from Wolfpack and others.

Sure, with the right conversion parts. If you have the Black Knights boxings, you just need the GE engines and exhaust shrouds, and possibly a new cockpit if you want things like the Sparrowhawk HUD, square PTID, and LANTIRN control stick. Over the years, a number of companies have made conversions for the Tamiya kit. Cutting Edge and Wolfpack to name a couple, but the CE stuff is long OOP.

PhilB got a reaction from Cicciuzzo in 1/32 Tamiya F-4J VF-84 Jolly Rogers
Finally!
I decided to mount the wings folded. I couldn't understand why Tamiya put lots of detail in the wingtips then didn't give you the option to fold them with the kit.
Used brass rod, bent and ca'd into the main wing then drilled holes in the wingtips to mount them. Helps with storage/transportation as you can remove them. Checked out the wingfolds on the RAF Phantom at Hendon and the kit mouldings are pretty accurate.
Couldn't source seamless intakes at the time of building. Made 10 thou card liners blended into the front of the intake which then slid inside the kit body intakes when mounting the front intake (if that makes sense?). Not perfect but a whole lot better that if built as per the kit instructions.
Hope you like it!

Lovely metal legs with the kit. Polished the hydraulic rams and sealed with satin dark wash. If you don't seal them they will oxidise and go dull.
Dry transfer again. You have to go at em' with a pointed burnishing tool to get them into panel lines and rivets but once in they stay pretty well. Pitot tubes replaced with thin brass rod, sanded to a point and painted.

Eduard enhancements for the turkey feathers (nearly drove me nuts!). Alclad jet exhaust and blue highlights from Tamiya set D.

With hindsight I think I might have got carried away with all the panel numbers but I just couldn't stop!!!!
You gotta have ordnance! Yep it would probably never have got off a carrier deck but more bombs the better I say!

PhilB got a reaction from HL-10 in Sea Harrier FRS-1 1/24th scale.
Nice one Angelo.
I wrestled with this one once and I know what a challenge it can be.
I had the Flightpath set but it was still a real test of my patience.
I know your pain !
Great result.

This was a long build taking nearly 7 months. Any of you who have built this kit know the amount of work required. I used the kit decals and the Flightpath Harrier set which is superb. Lots of scratchbuilding and rivet filling! References were the SAM Publications Modellers datafile number 11 and the build in there by Nick Greenall which is one of the best models I have ever seen - period!
The aircraft shows two SkyHawk "kills" from the 8th June 1982 when piloted by Flt Lt Dave Morgan using AIM-9's. This aircraft was "on the ramp" of H.M.S Hermes on return to Portsmouth and was carrying the green fuel tank probably borrowed from one of the RAF Harriers. Hope you like it!
Scratchbuilt canopy interior and catches.Flightpath aux intake doors
Flightpath screen framing, annealed and ca'd over screen after removing detail, Scratch panel over wiper. MDC from light pro-moddeler wash flowed into canopy recess
More pics to follow

PhilB got a reaction from Tony T in Hunter T7 Trainer - Royal Aircraft Establishment
This has been rather a long build with a break for Christmas, the New year, School holidays, the weather, bad karma and Brian keeping me off the build by chatting all day instead of working at his job like he should be.
Original thread here:
http://forum.largescaleplanes.com/index.php?showtopic=36400
The real thing was a very clean showbird and I've finished to be as close as I can to this picture:
(Sorry about having to put in a link but Airliners.net have a very strict policy about copyright)
http://www.airliners.net/photo/UK---Air/Hawker-Hunter-T7/1927868/L/&sid=b061e72e5ac5dc8a1178a5365c8b2cae
Anyway I used the Fisher T7 conversion which had some issues for me.
I had to do some considerable work to get a good fit but thats modelling!!!!
I'm very happy to get a good result on the intakes which don't need fod guards.
Just taking time and patience will pay off in the end.
The base kit was the very good Revell F6.
Paints were white from Model Master, red and blue were White Ensign.
The rest were Humbrol enamels and clear coats were Model Master Gloss.
All roundels, codes and serials were Ad Astra masks which were the usual superb quality.
White stencils and crests were Ad Astra decals, the crest being a tricky two part job, but Ian's decals were some of the easiest I've ever used and that includes the big decal people. I added a few stencils from the kit sheet.
Enough talk, on with the picture fest!
Top and bottom views:
I got fed up waiting for a bright but overcast day so its bright sunshine pictures!
Bit of a walkround:
Back in a minute with some more.
