I don't like the PE parts either but it seems like you've got these in place very nicely.  I think when I build mine, I'll make replacement covers from plastic sheet.  I have a scribing template for piano hinges so that won't be too much of a chore to replicate.  Nice work by the way, I always enjoy watching your builds, no matter what the subject.

I know Eduard didn’t enhance on the crappy photo-etch in this kit, did any of model vendor produce replacement etch for this kit? In particular I’d like to find a set for the flaps.

Interesting story relayed to me by a 421 Sq (Bellicum Cecinere - JEJ flew w 421 briefly while leading 127 Wing) pilot in 60’s - they used to practice down in Sardinia over the sea. They’d fly low level interdiction before zooming up to lob the weapons onto target (lob-bombing I believe was the Nuke delivery method). Well, the planes usually ended up with a good coating of salt upon return to base (good to know for weathering!).
When they landed and taxied off the tarmac, just before entering hardstand, crews would come out with wheelbarrows full of walnut shells. They proceeded to shovel the shells into the engine intake to clean the salt buildup off the turbine blades.
Ive never been able to find any reference to this practice, and asked if it didn’t risk doing blade damage, but I was told apparently not.

I’ve never heard the walnut story but belong to a forum where I can get the answers, we never wanted to put FOD in the engines so I can’t see it being true.

I was trained by an ex-104 driver, he had some interesting stories about the nuclear delivery methods. He was a hoot to fly with, hated tower guys, always giving them poop.

The Spitfire variant that I want most is a highly detailed and accurate Kotare Spitfire Mk Vb. I built Tamiya's uber kits already, but I passed on the HB Mk Vb. I retired at 55, but was in the RCN for 35 years, so I had to retire :) Funny though how busy I still am, but I look forward to Monday's now instead of dreading them :)

    Happy Holidays Everyone!

You can stay to 65 now. I know a few are serving that late now.

I’m with you Brad, I want a Vb and Vc. No interest in the Va.

I was fortunate enough to have flown on one with my dad for his 40th Birthday.

A 90 minute, champagne fuelled, supersonic jolly boys outing.
    A truly spectacular experience.

I had a similar flight with my mom, who loved the Concorde. We paid $50 each for a flight at an airshow. I heard just recently that the airshow organizer miss-used some government funding to sell these subsidized flight to his friends and family. We lucked out in getting seats ourself. I only thought the tickets were a bargain.
