Shawn M
Thanks guys, a bit too contrasty on the fuselage and the clear coat will only exacerbate the effect. Going to go back tonight with the steel blue and make it more opaque on the fuse, I think if I'd have preshaded with the 'blue' it would have been fine but the steel blue was too dark. Once the blues are done I can retouch the NMF and start adding the blast panels. Alain Gadbois
Alain Gadbois
I agree with your assessment, and solution too. Good work on a difficult effect to achieve! Alain Shawn M
Shawn M
thank you Alain, I dig the effect on the wings although I went too opaque there and not opaque enough on the fuselage lol In person the paint has a jewel like depth to it and is very reactive to lighting and angles. Out2gtcha
Love it! The blue look is really a nice effect for the Mig, but agree the pre-shading might be a bit too noticeable. Shawn M
Shawn M
went back with signal blue on the fuse and base of vertical tail, much better. The flash accentuates the contrast, its much more muted in person once that was done I went back and touched up the underside all thats left (paintwise) is the gun blast panels! Out2gtcha
Wow, that blue is electric looking! Really an unusual and striking color for the Mig. I think the pre-shading is still a tad too stark on the wings for my taste, but that takes nothing away from a super looking model. Well done! Shawn M
Had I not have seen the video (post #1) I would agree on the wings Brian. Its quite a vivid blue depending on the light and angles, really kinda cool Out2gtcha

Shawn M
Thanks guys, definitely not my best work but acceptable for model room decoration. Band practice tonight, then tomorrow I will get back to the MIG. Hoping by the weekend to have the first future coat down and start decaling. Luckily not many decals involved; 6 stars, 6 numerals lol Out2gtcha and Alain Gadbois
Shawn M
managed some quick time before practice and got the gun blast panels and flare panel painted in. Probably a little too contrasty with the Vallejo Gunmetal, but I like it so Need to add the antenna mast tonight then the first future coat prior to decals.
