Welcome to the In the Navy Group Build! This runs from March 1st to August 31st 2021.

The scope is Naval aviation, could be from ship or land based squadrons.

Our standard Group Build rules apply: the kit must be an aircraft or helicopter, 1/35 scale or larger, and not more than 25% complete at the time of entering.

Have fun, and if you have any questions, ask away!

Would a Shinden apply? Developed on request of the Imperial Japanese Navy?

Well more than that, it was used by the IJN, so yes it's in.

Hi!

I´m pondering on this;

Is this kit OK for the "Navy" GB?

Cheers!

If the aircraft you are building belonged to the Bordfliegergruppe, then yes. The Germans never really had an independent Naval Air Arm, the closest they got was the Bordfliegergruppe which supplied aircraft to the navy and although technically still under Luftwaffe control, we'll call it close enough. However not all Arado 196's belonged to this group so check references first.

Maybe your are confusing this with the Kawanishi N1K-J Shiden, aka George, that was a navy fighter indeed?

I am asking about the Kyūshū J7W Shinden, that made its maiden flight only on 3rd August 1945. Just two prototypes were built before VJ. This is the Zoukei-Mura kit.

Does it apply too?

Oh wrong plane, but same answer; yes. As you say it was developed by the Navy.

Yes as 802 NAS was part of the Fleet Air Arm.

Thanks for the clarification Brad!

Now I have to choose between the Sea Gladi, a Wildcat and the Avenger :D
