Chris,

U got ot be the doctor of the cutaway. The 262 is off the wall as to details and all that wing spar detail and ribbing. One thing i would like to ask of u.The B-1 from what i understand was alittle longer as to the first version of the 262 for night ops.Is there any way i could get the length in inches to say on the revell kit i have and on which i like to modify the B-1 night fighter.Larry

Thanx Larry.............for the birds lenght:.......hm.....not really sure if the b-type was really longer 'cause as far as I know it was developed from the A- type without adding or changing the major fuselage structure/ construction but I'm not the "Me- specialist"......maybe some others could help here......how about Piet?

cheers

Chris

Awesome work Chris. I still can't get my head around the amount of careful planning that must be involved in making a simple cut-away model, let alone to the level you take them to. Impressive Alu work as well!!

Cheers mate,

Jay

The Me262B-1 was a simple conversion for a second seat, originally for trainers, then re-converted to nightfighters. There was no change in OAL. The 'B-2 was to have been a purpose-built machine, with about 1.5 meter added in the form of a second whole cockpit section (both the fuselage area and complete second pressure tub) added and the wings re-centerd over the new fuselage. There doesn't seem to be any evidence that the 'B-2 was ever actually built.

There is much confusion about the B series of this plane. Here are some facts that might help:

-The A series were single seaters.

-The B-1a was a dual-cockpit trainer built by converting a single seater. It was the same length (10.6 m if I remember right)

-The B-1a/U1 was a nightfighter dual seater, built by converting B-1a trainers. The rear seat was moved forward and the observers legs went into outriders or hollows on either side of the pilot cockpit. Behind the observer an aditional fuel tank was placed. It was exactly the same lenght as the B-1a or the A-1a.

-The B-2 was longer as it had a plug in the fuselage and the wings moved forward. However, only one was (perhaps) ever produced, but no photos of it has ever been discovered. It certainly saw no action.

Many people confuse the B-1a/U1 with the B-2. I hope this helps to clarify matters.

Hi. My description of the Me262B-2 is the correct one. Various drawings were made after the fact that showed odd fuselage extensions fore and aft of the cockpit (W.Green's Warplanes of the Third Reich, for one) but the original German drawings clearly show that a whole second fuselage+cockpit section added and the wing moved aft a bit to better center on the longer fuselage. The idea of the wing being moved forward may have come from a series of old and rather inaccurate drawings that have been published here and there since the '60s.

Hy mates,
besides the "GIGANT"-build I managed a bit of progress on my own projects, here a some quick shots of the paint job of the ME262. Was a bit of a challenge 'cause the correct sheme/ mottling cannot be seen clearly on my reference photos but after a few tips from my clubmate Michael Ulmann ( thanx Michael)
I did it this way.......

fuselage colour is RLM 76 in the "greenish" variation ( from 1944 on there were a few RLM 76 greys with different tones), mottling is RLM 82/83, wings are RLM 82 without splinter pattern.

cheers

Hi Chris.

Really amazing work!!!! I include a picture of my effort of the plane in the same makings done way back in 1987 (I think). It's the old Revell kit built straight from the box. Not quite up to your standard :D .

Chris, damn, nice work! The engine cut out is a great detail as well. The paint colors are suprising to me considering a night fighter, but I really like the attention to detail with the little squiggles. also leaving one leg off of the haken cross- solves annoying problems. thanks for sharing.

cheers from California, Mike
