  1. Thank you everyone for the great replies since the time I was last here. Unfortunately in the meantime the links had gone down but I managed to be able to restore them today. I am happy this community is still going! (And that my account still exists, thanx to the admin fairies for that!) I am looking forward to making some more models before I go completely blind I spent the intervening years still collecting 1:32 kits (the collection is now a substantial space problem lol, I'll post some pics of it sometime), and delving into the world of 3d modeling and simulation..so for those who would like to know what I did between then and now, well, I did mostly this: https://www.sas1946.com/main/ But now I want to get back to styrene, because this december I am finishing up my loooooong time project, my big display cabinet for the planes....and there is LOTS of space in it All the best!
  2. The model contains a PE cockpit and some other bits for the gears and flaps from Eduard. thanx for watching! Piet
  3. This is a modified Hasegawa kit I made recently for myself quietly. It is the 109 A-8 Plane flown my the comrade of Rudel, Maj Karl Kennel, of SG2 and deliberately crashed on landing to surrender at Kitzingen. Read more here http://fw190.hobbyvista.com/kitzingen1.htm and here http://www.luftwaffe.cz/kennel.html When I first saw the camo scheme, I knew I just HAD to do it, you know?
  4. That is just brilliant news. I am very much against kit bashing as it most often happens on other sites. Here we are more tolerant, and that is very cool. As to advice on rivets, my suggestion would be to have a look at the Hasegawa 109. On the top there is harly a rivet in sight, while at the bottom they are tastefully done. This is because on the real planes the top rivets were often filled in. I can see how a kit creator would be tempted to add rivets, as they look impressive to the layman, but for a truly great kit, my personal choice would be to have them very slight, or even not at all. Whichever way though, if you have to have them, they should be very small and shallow. But preferably just have the ones most neccesary, and those should be small, leave the rest off. The Hasegawa 109 and 190 kits are excellent examples of this. Whichever wa this goes, I happily support new companies coming into 1/32. We all remember how jucky the Trump Mig 15 was. They sure are churning out great kits now though! Later edit: I second Astro, in terms of the BMF sabre, the Hasegawa P47 would be the perfect clone for surface detail. Ask your guys to get themselves a copy of it. They wont be sorry, and it would be fun to watch TC choke on his own words again.
  5. You are an insane monster. That is beautifull work!
  6. Hi Dude! You can find the finished Ki84 plus steps in the other pages of the thread. here: http://forum.largescaleplanes.com/index.ph...pic=14854&st=15 http://forum.largescaleplanes.com/index.ph...pic=14854&st=30 http://forum.largescaleplanes.com/index.ph...pic=14854&st=45 All the best! Piet PS. I am PM'ing this as well.
  7. Vinyl tape. Who whould have thunk it! I am thrilled with this new trick! Thanx a bunch mate. Looks god so far.
  8. Nice work Perry Just one thought : I think you should ask one of the mods to move this thread, as well as the Hurrican thread, to the "in the works" section, where they belong, and will find a more apreciative audience. If you think you are too new to post there, then consider this your official invite.
  9. Cool! An SAAF scheme. WTG Perry! That Hurri looks great. Looking forward to seeing you post in the works section. I especially would like to see the Mossi. Where are you that you date an Afrikaans girl? London? Afrikaans girls are very very beautifull, and equally much trouble I should know, I am married to one
  10. Thanx for the fabulous comments guys She is now snuggly in storage waiting for her new owner (I am a week ahead of schedule) I am very pleased with this kit, but I have to do a proper build sometime this year to keep my hand in. I feel as if I might have to reject a few commissions this year. I have a 1/24 P-40 which is a big challenge for me and will require a lot of time. Bill, the figure you sent me is still my yardstick for finishing them. It helps to have a 1st rate painted figure in front of you to set the standard, because I am generally lost when it comes at figures. Derek, my next woody will be landing soon! Nice funny post with lost of hidden thingies you made. I love it! The wood comments over at the other thread is just my little way of making fun of a truly sad situation. As much as I love this hobby, it does seem to attract some types of very unpleasant personalities. From the misguided comb-overs to the truly troubled, whose enthusiasm for their subjects only thinly disguise some scary political and moral affiliations. I always find it fascinating to watch certain personalities utterly fail to disguise the sociopaths under the veneer. I think that it must be that the principles governing the art of model making are such strenuous tests for sanity, that these guys bash themselves to smithereens upon it, and loose control. It has happened to me on occasion too, but never to the point where I have found the urge to criticise a work by a superior modeller, in a way that does not even attempt to disguise my jealousy, of a part I have not even seen yet. That is just crazy crazy. Nor can I imagine that I would ever be in a state of mind where I would assume that a person on a forum like this will know what I mean without me explaining it, but just because I was thinking it. That is insane, but it happened on this thread. There has been, in the past, much discussion about unsolicited criticism and advice on forums such as this. I had a discussion about this with Jay a few days back. It is surely a very fine line, since a site like this is supposed to be helpful. But there are ways and ways of bringing a point across, and many people fail miserably at this. We all build to different standards, and it is also very hard to gauge what standard a model is being built too, and this will have a great impact on what advice is offered. Radu comes under tremendous fire, since he builds to a very exact standard. He is bombarded with advice, much of which eventually is erroneous. I build to a much lower standard, and in the case of some commissions like this, a VERY low standard. I always try to explain this in the opening post of a build. But I find that few folks who offer advices will have read your thread entirely, and will mostly be repeating points previously raised. Therefore I have been refraining from criticising anyone here. Firstly because no one deserves it. Some guys here are simply breathtakingly brilliant. Most of us are OK. Some are fumblers. All of us are satisfied with different levels of perfection (or the lack thereof). It is very very few who will have the mental discipline to build to an infinite level of detail and retain a semblance of sanity. Klaus, Radu, the Ripper and Brian are examples of this. There are also many examples of guys who try to reach that standard and go insane. By insane I do not mean foaming at the mouth, but rather they become these sour insecure self possessed irritants who think the world revolves around them and cannot comprehend why the world modelling community is not lining up at their door for lessons. So, yes, perhaps I mean foaming at the mouth. Also I am very careful when offering advice. I find that mostly, when a guy wants help, he will ask for it. Same reasons as previously. Some guys just don't WANT to fix this or that little thing, or know about some arcane detail or research secret. Some guys here are happy just to glue it all together and string it up in their kid's bedroom. They are probably also among they dudes who have the most fun with this hobby for the least amount of anguish. I think that at heart most guys know when and when not to climb in and "advise". And since it is mostly not asked for, a lot of people have resorted to condescension to get their wisdom in there. This is very irritating. Anyhow, I have just had to have a little ramble here in my thread to relieve the urge to butt in violently over at Radu's. I consider him a friend on the board, although we have not become as closely acquainted as I have with a few other LSP'ers of god standing. I have tremendous respect for his skills, which is why I buy his kits and sets. I have been an ardent fan of his ever since I first read his Hurricane build, and when he helped me with advice whenever I asked him. I still use his tricks in every build I do. I was very amazed that he helped me, because I have found a lot of modellers who would not, and would advise in ways that only boosted their own ego's, and did not really help you out. Main reason I never got on with the local IPMS here. Radu was never like that with me. And then later when he started using tools I was involved with, it was a boost to MY ego beyond belief, although it was untimely to mention it. He has always proven himself as one of the most objective, levelheaded guys here. Ready to dish out a slap where it was needed and more than ready to help, backed up by real talent and skill. Is is funny, sad and infuriating at the same time to see one after the other so called "experts" take a swing at him and loose. And everytime it happens I worry if he has the strength of character to brush it off and keep doing what he does. Of course he always has, but I still worry for my own selfish reasons (want to get his next creation...still want to ask him about this or that trick...). So, what is my point exactly... don't know really. I wrote this for therapeutic reasons, same reasons I started building models. Perhaps I just wanted to let Radu know he has my unconditional support, for whatever it is worth.
  11. Dave, this is a beaut! The little details you put in creates a fantastic effect. Well done mate!
  12. Last one! I hope a mod reads this and moves this to the PTO gruipbuild. Perhaps I can win one of them LSP mugs
  13. Hey! I just realized that this buid can go into the PTO groupbuild. There is surely not a rule about commisioned builds not being alowed? If it is cool, and one of the LSpers reads this, please move the thread to there! Anyhoo, I is all done. I have been taking some picatures, and will post a few.
  14. Alow me to put forward a case for making the canopy from wood...
  15. Hey, great looking build mate! I had the same recently with a build, and found that I could further minimize the effect of the paint peeling away by sticking the masking tape to my sweaty palms a few times (yes Jay, I am too a pervert). This reduced the strength of the glue a lot, but the tape still worked.
  16. Hey, thats what happens on every modeling forum as soon as any new kit gets announced ...I still think you should make the legs from wood. You could get a dozen Belgian gypsy dwarfs to whittle them for you. Their craftsmanship is superior, but if you want eastern European mail order bride rejects, the market for them is a buyer's market, and Chris Kirchoff will smuggle them out for you in the tank of his scrambler. Only they don't whittle at all, and complain more than gypsies do. What's your budget like?
  17. Thanx guys! Cheers mate! Do try it, but I think next time I will follow whatzitsname's advice, and use torn strips of neoprene rubber to "stamp" the maskol on. A very cool tip! Mike, I am still doing the washes on the belly, but I will post as soos as its done. I dig the patchwork effect. I imagined a ground crew building up a plane from leftover parts, only so it can go fly into something. It is also a good practice run for the 1/24 "posdonkie" project I want to start soon, which was a P-40 left for dead in the desert by the RAF, only to be stolen and fixed by a SAAF crew, and used for cooling beer. The IJN guy gets no more Sake. He is already motherless, which explains him doodeling around on a IJA base. Good news Matty, some of the ADSL packages here have now come down so they are infact cheaper to have than our normal line, so that thing is in the pipeline and literally a few weeks away. I just have to get over the Big CD launch and video shoots over the next 2 weeks, then I can get onto that.
  18. The view from the other side. This is one of the most fun builds I have had so far. I made the usual amount of hilarious stuff ups, and I dont even care!
