John1
Wow, what a great job! Too bad for the pilot but this happens in war. I've read different stories about why Maxis was shot after crashlanding. One was that he had just strafed and killed a friend of the US soldier who shot him, another was the "boot" version. Keep in mind, this was right after the Battle of the Bulge and the associated Malmedy Massacre of 80 US POW's by SS troops. When word of that got out, there were many instances of US units shooting surrendering Germans. Payback's a ***** I suppose. Regarding the model, I've seen multiple profiles of Maxis' White 13. Some show the late war colors you painted her in, others show the aircraft in mid-war 74/75/76. Was anything ever conclusively proven as to what paint she was wearing? daHeld
bcauchi
Not that i know of but in my opinion, the B&W photos suggest late war colours. Thanks for the comments. daHeld
Reuben L. Hernandez
Never heard of this story before. I had to look it up and read about this pilot. Tragic ending to this young pilots life. Your model looks great and the weathering to my eye looks great also the figure is great. Thanks for sharing this story. daHeld
Vulcan
New story to me so thanks for that. The whole build and scene looks excellent and I think you nailed the mud splatter pattern up and under the fuselage - 10/10 daHeld
LSP_K2
I don't know if I've ever modeled anything with a story behind it or not, but I really like the idea. Nice work.
Bill Cross
Very satisfying diorama and build. Should do well on the show circuit.
mbrman
Beautiful rendition, but according to the Profile Paintshop, the aircraft was confirmed to be painted in grays after it's recovery.
