LSP_Kevin
Howdy folks, Our own Ray Peterson is back with the first in a new series of SAC reviews: Scale Aircraft Conversions 32117: Sopwith Camel Landing Gear (Wingnut Wings) Thanks, Ray! LSP_Mike
Thanks for that assessment Ray.
Gigant
Dumb question Ray... After paying near $100 for a WNW 1/32 scale Camel kit, why would the landing gears need converting? Neither my unbuilt 1/28 Revell or built 1/32 Academy kits seem to have that issue, and they look just like the stuff in the bag shown above? Bill Cross
Glad to know the set is no real replacement for strength over the styrene ones in the kit. Modeling is expensive enough these days. Gigant
DeanKB
Look up "Money for old rope" in the Oxford Book of Idioms, and it says "SAC".
mattlow
Well, you've got to admit that it's quite a feat to sell something that appears to be inferior to the parts it replaces and isn't particularly cheap..! Even the name is somewhat misleading - conversion??? Converts your good functional kit provided u/c to a pricey, wobbly white metal one... nice..! Clearly lots of people buy this stuff, but who uses it? Matt

Clearly lots of people buy this stuff, but who uses it? Matt I suspect many people buy it, but only the once. Perhaps the 1/48 & 1/72 sets are better as they have to support far less weight? Bill Cross
Why buy it? When I purchase a new model, I usually go overboard on the AM goodies to make sure I have EVERYTHING. I have seen builds that use the SAC products, but did not know how poor the metal alloy they use is. So now I know. :fight:
DeanKB
Perhaps people have bought the G-Factor gear and assumed SAC was a cheaper, but equivalent quality, alternative? That's how I bought a SAC set for Tamiya's Mustang, after getting the G-Factor set for Trumpies Avenger & Tamiya's Mk.IX Spitfire. Boy, was I wrong. LSP_Kevin
Perhaps the 1/48 & 1/72 sets are better as they have to support far less weight? I think that is a big part of why they're still in business. Like you, I suspect that the product just works better in the smaller scales. Out2gtcha
Didn't really think of that since I generally don't dabble in smaller scales, but makes sense
Guest Smitty44
YA I saw a review of some new SAC 1/32 legs, forget for which kit, on the IPMS website and the guy acted like they were the best aftermarket product ever created! Guest Clunkmeister
These products have a real place in the 1/48 scale jet scene....
vince14
I think they're probably well suited to 1/48, especially with the more complex legs of jet aircraft. I can't imagine there's much need down at 1/72 (unless, as mentioned in the review, you break the kit parts). In 1/32 they're worse than useless.
