LSP_K2
Thanks for the inputs, fellas. I'm still considering what might be best. In the meanwhile, I've painted the gun sight glass edges with clear green, but don't really like it all that much, so may redo them. LSP_K2
To add insult to injury, in addition to finding out after-the-fact, that the Montex mask set already contained canopy masks, which eliminated the need for the Eduard set purchased at the same time, tonight I discovered yet another Eduard set residing in the bottom of the box. Gazzas
I guess you'll have to build another one, then. I like the kill markings. Out2gtcha and LSP_K2

LSP_K2
Rear end now straightened out and back in primer again. I think this looks much more than acceptable now, so it’s time for the black lacquer, then the Alclad. LSP_Kevin
LSP_K2
It took some time, but I did manage to eliminate all of the seams from the gun panel inserts too. Rick Griewski and LSP_Kevin
LSP_K2
While I was tinkering around with the bottom, I also added some drains that are typically seen on the starboard side wing root area. LSP_Kevin, MikeMaben and Gazzas
MikeMaben
You 'should' use the markings you prefer because apparently this aircraft evolved thru a number of marking iterations. There's the one with a 15 painted on the hinomaru https://ironna.jp/file/w1280/h400/cover/f4515986a9a07da2d2924f420b519890.jpg Photos of it without the 15 http://www.aviation-history.com/garber/images/kawanishi_N1K2-2.jpg http://www.aviation-history.com/garber/images/kawanishi_N1K2-1.jpg One artists illustration from the old but credible Donald Thorpe book Just fill this out and you're good to go ... Martinnfb
Nice work on blending that gun panel Kevin, it is a tough spot to fill and sand. Smooth as silk !
Gazzas
Yeah...wow, that is some smooth work. Envious! Howz come we don't have a gree-with-envy emoji?? LSP_K2
LSP_K2
And the black is on. Not as shiny as some I've seen, but that's OK, as I'm shooting for a more subdued finish on the bottom anyway.
LSP_K2
To subdue/alter the Alclad base coat, I've used my test dummy to shoot some smoke and greatly thinned medium gray. The smoke will do what I'm looking for, but will need to be put on much more lightly than I've done here. I'll also be experimenting with some other optional ideas. LSP_K2
Now that I've stripped the head protection device (for the third time), I decided to doctor it up just a tad, so have added an additional piece that is fairly commonly seen, though I have no idea what purpose it may have had, as well as extending the aluminum down the back side some. I also scribed a line to represent the thickness of the front plywood, so now it's time for acrylic base coat, again. Gazzas
