BloorwestSiR
Well, it's the first of three year and was just itching to start a new build. Never mind the number already clogging my workbench. So this is what I pulled out of the stash: A view of the contents: Zero77 and Uncarina
BloorwestSiR
I started with the cockpit. I never realized it was a double decker until now. The underside of the upper deck: Since Bandai didn't really provide any colour callouts in the instructions, I looked up the ones for the Fine Molds Slave 1 to use as reference. As such, the cockpit was painted in Field Grey and Flat Black. I hope to work on it some more tomorrow. LSP_Kevin
You're a machine, Carl! Looking forward to your progress, mate. Kev
BloorwestSiR
Thanks Kev! Although I'm not sure machine is accurate. More like ADD Anyways, I've run into my first hurdle: how to paint a 1/144 Boba Fett? There are 2 versions of him in the kit, one seated and the other standing. They're both on the small side: Zero77
LSP_Kevin
Hmm...they look more like Blobba Fett to me. Still, knowing how tiny 1/144 scale is, Reedoak-quality figures are not to be expected. Will you be able to see much of him in the finished model? Kev
BloorwestSiR
He's actually reasonably detailed for such a small figure. The seated Boba is a bit softer in detail but still considerably better than those "pilot" figures Dragon uses in their 1/144 aircraft kits. As for how much is visible, I'm not too sure at the moment. Certainly his feet won't be.
BloorwestSiR
Well it's time to drag this out and get her finished. Actually, I think it was more that I wanted a quick break from the Spitfires currently occupying the bench. I painted Boba (Blobba) Fett and assembled the cockpit which rotates interestingly. Then it was the rear loading gate area. I gave it a very light wash as Bandai plastic doesn't like enamel washes much. Test fit with the cockpit onto the lower fuselage. BloorwestSiR
One of the reasons this build stalled initially was the heavy chipping that the finish had. I ended up using it as a test run for when I built my Birdcage Corsair. I sprayed a base coat of Light Grey. Then I used rubber cement to mask off the "chipped" areas. Then the top coat of Hull Red was applied. Once dry, I gave it a quick wipe and the rubber cement came off. cib2265, tucohoward, LSP_K2 and 1 other
Dave Williams
The new Bandai SW kits are awesome! They pack more detail in their 1/72 than Fine Molds did in their 1/48 kits. Just got the Bandai 1/72 TIE Striker. BloorwestSiR

Just got the Bandai 1/72 TIE Striker. Very true. I have most of the Fine Molds kits as well as the Bandai ones so it's easy to compare them. I really wish Bandai would do something mainstream like a 1/32 plane kit just to see what they could do in terms of the level of detail and ease of assembly. BloorwestSiR
Carl, Great work with the chips! Cheers, Tom Thanks Tom! This ended up being a proof of concept for my Birdcage build which needed a bunch of weathering on it. It worked out for both so I'm really happy with that and I have learned another skill set. BloorwestSiR
I finished assembling the cargo hold section and then gave it a chipped finish as well. Then I started on the detail painting of the lower body and adding all the separate detail parts. tucohoward and LSP_K2
BloorwestSiR
The "wings" were assembled and painted. Then they attached and the rest just went together from there. In fact, the rest went together so well, I didn't take any pics. So here it is completed: My first completed build of the year. Out2gtcha
Looks great! I have a lot of these Bandai SW kits in the stash. They all seem to have gotten great reps, w/great fit.
