dmthamade
Well my ME262 is dead and buried, never did work out. I'm going to try a build using the new tool Revell kit in Enemy Ace colors. Enemy Ace was one of my favorite comics as a youngster, along with Sgt. Rock and Haunted Tank. This will use decals that i'll have to scrounge and some Scale Aircraft Conversion gear legs. I'll use eduard canopy masks because they're so easy to use. Fingers crossed i don't destroy another kit. Don Out2gtcha and BiggTim

I love my mom, but she does that kind of thing a LOT. Wish I had back half the stuff she threw out when I wasn't looking. dmthamade
dmthamade
I'm hoping this build survives my efforts, lately have had little luck. Some observations, the rudder pedals are attached to the sprues with heavy points, cutting them off is a bit of a pain without damage. Engineering of the wing is different, with the upper in two halves each and the lower in two halves. I've cut a slot in the lower fuselage for the main spar so i can build the wing separate from the main fuselage. Exhaust has to be installed before closing up fuselage halves, will make painting/masking a bit awkward. I painted the fuselage red around the exhaust openings to make final color coats easier to apply. Painted the exhaust Tamiya XF-84 Dark Iron and installed. There are sink marks on the wings and upper fuselage panels that need filling. Looks like an attempt is made to have moveable control surfaces, not doing that. Out2gtcha
So, what what was the cause of the demise of the 262? What became of the Cylon Raider for that matter? dmthamade
dmthamade
So, what what was the cause of the demise of the 262? What became of the Cylon Raider for that matter? The ME262 i messed up because i wasn't careful gluing panels and slats on. They would need to be disassembled to correct or a LOT of fill. The Raider i messed up the paint. The Raider can be fixed simply by applying another coat or two and getting on with life. Honestly, i've lost all enthusiasm for building right now. Happens every once in a while then i get back into it. Right now i'm a spectator watching all the great builds and planning future builds. Hopefully this winter i'll get back into it. dmthamade
Weathers turned cold, so starting back in. Over the weekend i did a little work on the build and tonight managed to apply the color coat of red. Man' it looks weird not in Luftwaffe camo. I have to confess, this will be a 10-20 footer. Hope to get rolling on this, maybe get the Cylon Raider done as well. Don Out2gtcha

dmthamade
More progress. Managed to get everything painted and glosscoated. I'll start decaling tomorrow. I went through my decal stash and found some that should work, hawks head for JG 51, double chevrons, crosses, stencils and even tail victory markings. Some of the stenciing is red so it'll be skipped, the rest i will try to add as the red looks kinda monochromatic. No swastikas on the build, according to the stories Von Hammer would have nothing to do with Nazis. The victory tail markings and spiral on the spinner don't appear in the comic pics i've found, but this is a what-if....IIRC the white fuselage stripe doesn't go with JG 51, i may leave it off altogether. Hope to get the stickers on tomorrow, Thanksgiving in Canada so we're off. Turkey dinner with spuds, candied carrots, corn, stuffing, gravy, dinner bisquits, apple pie and Pepcid AC. Good times!!! dmthamade
Spent some time today applying decals. I used scraps from various EagleCals, Hasegawa, kit sheet and Microscale sheets. Didn't do the spinner spiral, tried with 3 different decals, couldn't get any to work. Fuselage stripe i tried a white one from the Promodeller sheet, wouldn't line up vertical. Could try painting it but trying to cover red with white...... Applied enough stencils to keep it interesting. Enjoying the build now, another coat of gloss tomorrow then on to weathering.
