leoasman
After watching Tom Probert dazzle us for the last couple of his builds, I decided to jump in with both feet and attempt to build a 1/32 B-24 to compete with all of the wonderful B-17s coming off the line! (Good work everyone!) So here it is, just out of the shipping container! Unfortunately, I am only going to be able to do a little bit at first because we are moving in 3 weeks and I have to start packing up everything soon. Thanks for lookiing! tomprobert
Fantastic! It'll fight you all the way but will be great fun! The biggest problem I found with mine was keeping the fuselage strong enough to hold that high wing - especially as I opened the bomb bay up. I suggest building a very strong bomb-bay roof and bulkheads by using thick plastic card (2mm) if possible, as I then mated the spars to these to keep everything as rigid as possible. Also, Robert's Models (Combat) does a basic resin engine and propeller set which is a good starting point for some additional detail work. I had to make the undercarriage from brass rod on mine as there was none provided in the kit. One final thing, if possible avoid putting any nose weight into the model, and use the crew access ladder for the underside door as a tail prop. This will keep the overall weight down and therefore the model will support its own weight better! This was my effort, will took well over a year from start to finish: Good luck - I'll be watching with much interest and if you need any help please ask Tom
leoasman
I've got the combat model set, which is actually quite nice! Good tip about the nose weight and wing spar! Leo
leoasman
Here is a better shot of what you get from John at Tigger Models... Plus some early scratchbuilding I did while waiting for the kit to arrive. Leo

Thomas Lund
Kit is looking pretty good, but aren't you missing one piece of vertical stabilizer - I only count 3 of those...
leoasman
I think you're right Thomas! I went back and checked and there does seem to be one missing. I'll contact John and see what I can find out! Leo

tomprobert
A big public thank you to Tom Probert for sending me scaled plans for my B-24! Thanks Tom! Leo It's a pleasure... also, if you're planning an early B-24D without the bars on the national insignia (pre August '43) I have some in 1/32nd if you need them. I look forward to watching this progress. Tom
