aldur Posted August 24, 2008 Author Posted August 24, 2008 ... And finally some pictures of the cockpit in the fuselage: The cockpit isn't glued yet. I just put it in to see how it would look. Hope you like it. greetings, Ian
Texas Posted August 24, 2008 Posted August 24, 2008 HI Your doing a good job on this kit. Looking forward to seeing more. Texas
ruzlkampf Posted August 25, 2008 Posted August 25, 2008 Wow, That's looking GREAT, Ian!! This is OOB? I've got the A6M5 kit, but never really looked at it. I'm gonna have to get it down and open it up to see what's inside after seeing these pics. That is some awesome detail, and your paint-job has really made it pop out. Sweeeet! Can't wait to see the next progress pics....this build is coming along nicely. Russ
aldur Posted August 25, 2008 Author Posted August 25, 2008 Thnx guys. Yes Russ this is 100% OOB. It is an amazing piece of engineering by Tamiya. I still need to be more careful with painting the small details. Still pretty messy I think compared to what I've seen here. greetings, Ian
Daywalker Posted September 3, 2008 Posted September 3, 2008 Glad to see another Zero here at the GB! Excellent work thus far, can't wait to see more.
Azgaron Posted September 3, 2008 Posted September 3, 2008 Excellent work so far Aldur! Nice looking cockpit! Cheers, Azgaron
aldur Posted September 4, 2008 Author Posted September 4, 2008 thnx guy's. It is indeed a great piece of engineering/detail by tamiya. I might try and add the ignition wires if I can find a suitable fine wire. Any suggestions anyone? greetings, Ian
theseeker Posted September 6, 2008 Posted September 6, 2008 Ian, You can use just about any fine wire imaginable. I have learned to keep old electronic wire and strip them down. You will be amazed what you can find in your own home. I did this pit too! Rocky
big matt Posted September 9, 2008 Posted September 9, 2008 Looking good, Ian. If you can find it locally, fine solder works great too. Matt
aldur Posted September 13, 2008 Author Posted September 13, 2008 Thnx, Great pit rocky. I had to do some repair on a speaker connection and I think the pieces of wire I have leftover from that will do great. I haven't had time to work on it anymore, maybe I'll get something done tomorrow. greetings, Ian
geedubelyer Posted September 14, 2008 Posted September 14, 2008 That cockpit looks terrific Ian It is indeed a great piece of engineering/detail by tamiya. It's available in three gauges and they do mail order. HTH Fly fishing wire
aldur Posted December 23, 2008 Author Posted December 23, 2008 Hi, I'm finally back with an update. Haven't done much (been very busy reading some excellent aviation related books I got recently) but I still hope to finish it before the end of the GB. This is how she's looking at the moment: I had a little problem with the bottom. I removed to much plastic when removing the sprue attachment: But I managed to get it all smooth with the help of some milliput: I didn't get the riveting back the way it should though. Haven't got the hang of that yet. I also did some extra detailing on the engine (first time for me): Hope you like it and any comments are very welcome. greetings, Ian

But I have some remarks. I do not know much about Japaneese engines but aren't there two sparkplugs for one cilynder? It looks that you placed the wire into the spot where the fuelinjection is. Maybe check some references, most radial engines work the same. Try use thin solder wire instead of metal. Solder is softer and much easier to bend. On the other hand the engine looks great to me so why bother. Rick.
aldur Posted January 18, 2009 Author Posted January 18, 2009 It's finished. Last week I was able to put the finishing touches on the zero. Here it is after putting the decals on: The decals are a bit thick and the larger ones didn't completely conform to all the rivets, even after large amounts of microsol. A little bit of weathering: some exhaust staining. A first for me and I'm quite satisfied with the result. The last bits an pieces that have to go on: And here she is finished: And as I currently don't have a good place to show it, it's put back into the box: Hope you like it. Greetings Ian Nick32 1
