RadBaron Posted April 14 Posted April 14 This one's been sitting in the stash since it was released way back when. For sentimental reasons, i always wanted to build this to replicate the paint scheme from. The old Matchbox 1/72 kit: So cool, it looks almost reptilian! At some point, I'd added an Eduard etched set to the box, so the build began. Gluing the cockpit bits together. Tidying up openings Priming parts Painting Pre-coloured Photo-Etch My new favorite way of replicating instrument glass: UV curing clear nail polish Assembly was straight forward, just filling and sanding thr usual places. Because of the curved Glasswork, I'd bought a Montex canopy mask. It was fine for the flat panels, but no good for compound curves, so out with the masking tape and maskol. And that's where the kit sat for 6 months the while I started a new job and moved house.... To be continued in Part 2! LSP_K2, TankBuster, Mal_Belford and 10 others 13
RadBaron Posted April 14 Author Posted April 14 (edited) Time to break in a new model bench! After a few evenings of cleaning seams and rescribing panel lines and applying rivets everywhere and she was ready for paint. Looking into paint schemes for these planes, it turned out that apparently the Matchbox paint scheme that I'd fallen for so many years ago, is completely fictitious. So the options were: A ) Totally fictions RLM 70/71 B ) plausible scheme wearing RLM 81/82 C ) An accurate scheme of RLM 74/75. I chose option A. So that meant the usual black primer and a slowly/randomly filled in top coat. super fancy masks Weathering has begun Since I was doing my own paint scheme, I chose to cut paint masks for the crosses and unit markings which was fortunate, because the kit decals exploded on contact with water. I managed to salvage some stencils, and took the skull and cross bones from the decal stash. Marked up and after a clear coat. Some airframe chipping was done using both the hairspray and the Prismacolor pencil techniques Which left the fiddly bits. My favorite way of doing antennas was utilized. Wire rings, thin tube and EZLine And with a few paint touchups, the Me410 is heading to the cabinet! Now my new bench is broken in, its back to that big MkXII Spitfire! Thanks for watching. I think i used Tamiya Extra thin. The multi part canopy didn't fit very well, and I had to fill some gaps with Zap Canopy Glue. Lots of filling and sanding the rear and top sections to blend it all together. Javlin1 1
