    Thanks Tim!

When placing the upper right wing halve, there is a noticeable gap at the forward area (maybe 1 mm wide). To close the gap, I glued some styrene and sanded to get a good junction.

On the left wing, it appeared that it might have been better to glue the upper part on the lower one before attaching the wing to the fuselage, because now the upper part was no longer aligned with the lower part, It stood about 1mm out (at the wing root as well as at the wing tip, so the parts would actually align if the fuselage were not in the way). Therefore the upper wing part had to be slightly shortened at the inner end, so that it would align to the lower wing.
This was a bit tricky at the rear, with the tab below. But it also gave me the opportunity so sand the forward area into shape to get a good junction to the fuselage without using styrene as shim like on the right wing:

    That's it for now.

    Cheers
    Alex

    Hi all,
While I wait for more decals I thought I'd hit the two figures.
Both are from 'Copper State Models' to accompany their Bristol Scout,

    Hi all,
As my build of the Hannover Cl.II is drawing to a close, I'm starting research for my next build.
This will be the 'Copper State Models' Bristol Scout C.
The aircraft I intend to build is Scout serial number 1260 (not a kit scheme).

Bristol Scout C, serial number 1260 was one of a batch of 24 aircraft built under contract CP 67209/14 (serials 1243 to 1266).
This aircraft was delivered to Eastchurch on the 4th of July 1915 and was officially accepted a week later.
It was at St Pol for a few days before joining No.5 Wing at Dover on the 13th of August for Home Defence.
On the 24th of January 1916 and the 9th of February, it was flown by Flt. Sub. Lt. R.F.S Leslie to defend against enemy seaplanes that were attacking Folkstone, Dover, Broadstairs and Ramsgate.
The aircraft required repairs after it overturned on the 29th of June, but was damaged beyond repair on the 10th of August and written off on the 4th of September 1916.
The Bristol Scouts had various armament fitted, which included Lewis machine guns mounted obliquely on one or both sides of the fuselage.
Also forward facing on the top forward fuselage decking or forward facing on the upper wing.
During one period, 1260 had a Lewis machine gun fitted on the top forward fuselage decking.
It seems strange therefore that this aircraft was not fitted with any form of synchronising mechanism to stop fired rounds hitting the rotating propeller.
Evidence of this can be seen on similar period Scouts with this armament fitted, by wrappings around the propeller blades that were aligned with the muzzle of the machine gun.

my first WnW build... and ... if it gets done... one of my first completed builds ever (at least this century)... but I've got to the "ok... I need to think about the rigging now... stage". So I'm doing the D7302 108th Squadron livery from the kit. it didn't start out this way. A digression - but I originally was going to do the dutch version of B7620 as outlined in the kit ... but ... I ran into problems...

I had set down the black and white striped decals which went on perfectly... but I suspected I had problems. I've read that one should use a "soft' setting solution on these which is what I did I thought but even then one can see a spot where the decals were dissolved a bit too much - probably because they are deliberately fairly thick. in any event I thought I had these all set down and had clear coated them etc. and then went to mask the area by the observer / gunner for the dutch "cockades" but the decals lifted up when I pulled off the kabuki tape. in the end there was nothing I could do ... so I stripped off the decals and switched to D7302 "N" which proved to be far easier of course. so it's at this stage now:

I'm very close now to rigging this thing up ... it is more like rigging a sail boat than I thought (I used to sail a fair bit). One has to think through exactly what to do and how you're going to do it. A challenge I have, as can be seen, is I share my work area with my kids and have to be able to move it at a moments notice. once rigging starts it seems... it's endgame and one has to be really careful. The wing span on these early planes should not be underestimated either - a high aspect ratio  means allot of table space. I'm guessing the best way is to start with the body for the bracing and lines which go to the rudder and elevators and such. I've seen where modellers then rig the top wing with loose ez-line  (which is what I'll be using) and then attaching the top wing and then cutting and gluing the "wires" between the struts and so on. This seems to make sense. As per another thread, I realize that these braces for the royal Air Force planes were often actually flat rods screwed into attachment points on the wings. The WnW instructions give these as 0.1mm x 0.3mm cross sections but of course this is impossible to replicate so will just be using EZ-wire to complete these areas I presume. Also- the DH.9 only seems to have had only a few turnbuckles (I have thesecfrom Gaspatch in 1:48 and 1:32) which will make things easier too.

BTW I've now started several other WnW kits (yes it's what we do I presume) and I would say the DH.9 is the hardest of them all so far because of the absolute precision required in getting the hull / framing together. But despite this, and the fact that the DH.9 is not that pretty, and sucked in real life due to its poor engine, it is a great build and of course it's WnW which means it's in a class by itself.

This is the second part of a commission build. Two years ago I finished an Avro Lancaster 35th Squadron for a museum display regarding fellow Norwegian Johan Koren Christie: https://forum.largescaleplanes.com/index.php?/topic/90915-hk-models-avro-lancaster-raf-35th-squadron/#comment-1305054
This time it's Johan's brother Werner Christie that is the subject of my model. Werner together with his brother fled occupied Norway, attended Pilot training at Little Norway Toronto. Returned to Europe and UK after finished flight school. Served first in 331 Sq. and later in 332 as Squadron chief. Transferred to the British 234th Squadron, later Wing Commander of the 150 Wing. and spent the last weeks of WW2 as a POW after a bail out over Northern Germany.
This model will go into the same exhibition as his brothers Avro Lancaster and some personal items including his medals on loan from the family. The model is supposed to represent Werner's D-Day ride. The 18" invasion stripes were painted on in a very crude manner on the 5th of June....
332 Operated from Bognor Regis in the summer of 44. Bognor was wire mesh covered: I have tried to replicate that for the base.
All in all not a perfect result, but at least a very interesting and historical subject. I really do enjoy when history and modelling come together!
Tamiya Spit, Resin from Barracuda, figure Ultra Cast with a hornet head, HGW seat harness and decals from fellow Norwegian Vingtor Decals. Figure painted by my good friend Cato N!
