Started this a few weeks ago and finally finished her today. Beautiful kit and goes together like one of Tamiya's best should. No after market items, all OOB. Has moveable flaps, retractable landing gear and the cockpit detail is excellent.
    Paints used:
Tamiya XF12 J.N. Grey for underside
Mr Color Super Metallic 2 Super Matt Aluminum for upper surface
Tamiya XF70 IJN Green for all upper surfaces.
I put to use many techniques I've been learning over the past few years and I'm happy with the result. I've tried being restrained on the weathering but its hard to not go nuts on this one. This is just one of those kits that goes together with no hassle you wish other manufacturers would take note.

    Hey everyone!
So, for a change, here's a Bf 109 G-6 in 1/35 scale from Border Model.
Honestly, I think it’s the nicest large-scale version of this plane out there, I couldn’t get my hands on a 1/32 kit, no shop had any in stock.
This Border Model kit is really great: it’s got the right shape, very accurate, packed with details, and super easy to build.
The only real issue is the decal sheet, it's mostly incorrect and doesn't even include decals for the instrument panel.
So I picked up an IP and some pilot harnesses from Eduard.
As for the decals, I tried an aftermarket sheet, but it turned out to be even worse than the one from Border Model…
Thankfully, my Silhouette Cameo saved the day.
The only decals I actually used are the yellow "87" triangle on the left, the stencil under the exhausts, and the round stencil in front of the "1" on the right.
Everything else was done with masks: the 8 crosses, the '1', the "-", the JG53 emblems, the victory marks on the rudder, the little red triangle on the left just behind the spinner, the manufacturer’s plate behind the supercharger intake on the left side, and of course the spiral on the spinner.

    Here’s the link to the WIP: Bf 109 G-6/U2 - 6./JG 53 - Border Model 1/35 - Works in Progress - Large Scale Planes

This kit was a real pleasure to build, and I’m looking forward to hearing your thoughts and feedback on it.
    Denis.

I've always loved the look of this huge Do335 with the US soldiers gazing at it and swarming around it like ants.
For the base I used a very high res US map from 1945 that I had printed on canvas and then... cut it up.

No decals were used. All masks. Lots of Eduard and Master upgrades and a Tamiya Jeep with Alpine figures.
I could have gone all out on the weathering, but I didn't.

Mathieu has not mentioned any pricing at this point.  But for reference, the 1/32 Spitfire XIVe conversions, which also utilize a forward fuselage replacement, are priced at 83.49+8.99 euros or approximately $102.31 US.

The proposed cut is on a panel line.  You can see that on the photo of the D-11 that I just posted. I have a copy of the Quickboost's D-11 spinner and prop so I can vouch for that one but I've not heard of a QB D-13 prop.  I've used Henri Daehne's magnificent props on many builds but as far as I know, he no longer produces them.  Mathieu is going to supply the appropriate spinner and VS9 prop blades with his conversions.

    "Hello from New Zealand,

K32009 Kotare 1/32 Messerschmitt Bf 109K-4 3rd test shot samples have arrived and look excellent. There are just a few very small areas that need to be perfected before release, and these will be sorted very soon. All going to plan it will begin shipping before the end of June.

Good and bad news for Australian customers. The bad news is that we have unfortunately had to cease our relationship with our Australian distributors. Therefore K32009 Kotare 1/32 Messerschmitt Bf 109K-4 will not be available in local Australian hobby shops anytime soon (until a new distributor is secured).

    The good news is that you can easily order from www.kotare-models.com and have it shipped direct from New Zealand. So why not take advantage of our special pre-order rewards and order now to receive 32P005 Kotare 1/32 Bf 109K-4 3Dprint exhausts (value US$16.99) and an exclusive Darryl Legg box art, print suitable for framing, free of charge.     Hi everybody, I haven't posted on the forum for a very long time, mainly as I've neglected the larger scales for quite a few years however recently I finished the beautiful Spitfire Mk.XII Laminar Flow Design conversion married with the Tamiya Spitfire IX.  I wanted to do this conversion first as a warm up, I have a few of the Mk. XIVs (which I've also done in 1:48) and a Vc so I'll be doing more, in fact this project has somewhat rekindled my enthusiasm for the larger scales.  For this one though I threw a load of extras at this;
Laminar Flow Design cockpit detail set Barracuda cockpit snapshot update set Barracuda Studio control column Barracuda Stdio wheels Red Fox Studio instrument panel MDC flexible resin oxygen hose Master barrels gun barrels   Paint was Tamiya acrylic, all markings were sprayed using the LFD masks supplied in the conversion and the stencils were sprayed using the amazing 1Man Army masks.   A full build series is up on to my Scale Modelling Cafe YouTube channel.

hworth18 reacted to Mistral in Tamiya 1/32 P-51K Mustang - SAAF Korean War
2 Squadron (“The Flying Cheetahs”) flew the F-51K Mustang during the Korean War as part of the United Nations Forces. 2 Squadron was essentially an extension of the USAF 18th Fighter-Bomber Wing. The initial contingent of 2 Squadron personnel mobilized to Korea aboard ship in September 1950, via Yokohama in Japan. They arrived in Korea on 15 November 1950 and were initially directed to Pusan East airfield (K9) but found a more permanent home for the duration of the war at Chinae Air Base (K-10) in December 1950. The SAAF operated the Mustangs up to December 1952, after which they were replaced by Sabre F-86F-40, again loaned from the USAF.

2 Squadron currently operates the SAAB Gripen C and D from Air Force Base Makhado in the north-east of South Africa.

The SAAF had obtained 95 Mustangs from the USAF. 74 of these were lost or written off in Korea. 34 SAAF Mustang pilots were listed as “missing” or “KIA”. Approximately 2,890 missions (assumed to mean combat) and 10,597 operational sorties were flown. 8 pilots became prisoners of war, one of which was then 2nd lieutenant Dennis Earp, who late became the Chief of the SAAF.

SAAF F-51s were assigned a 3-digit tail code starting with “3”. Some aircraft received names, whilst others remained anonymous. The SAAF F-51s carried the blue and white roundel with an orange Springbok emblem on the fuselage and upper and lower wings. The 2 Squadron “Flying Cheetah” badge was carried on the forward fuselage (both sides) just beneath the windshield. They were seen variably with either black or dark olive drab anti-glare panels. Most SAAF F-51s carried a red propeller spinner, however, some were blue or yellow with one particular aircraft (#335) given a multicolored spinner (black, yellow, blue, red from back to front).

SAAF F-51s were used in the ground attack role and were usually armed with the six 0.50 guns, two napalm tanks (converted from old 75 gallon drop tanks) and six 5-inch HVAR rockets. Alternatively, the napalm tanks were replaced with a 500lb bomb. Most of the SAAF F-561s were equipped with the later Aeroproducts propeller blade. However, some were fitted with the original D-model Hamilton Standard “cuffed” propeller blade. I chose the latter for my subject and decided on “Jean”, #379, which was fitted with this propeller.

The base kit used is the sublime Tamiya P-51D/K Mustang Pacific Theatre boxing. If you want to build the perfect kit, this is it !

Time to break in a new model bench!
After a few evenings of cleaning seams and rescribing panel lines and applying rivets everywhere and she was ready for paint.

Looking into paint schemes for these planes, it turned out that apparently the Matchbox paint scheme that I'd fallen for so many years ago, is completely fictitious.

    So the options were:
    A ) Totally fictions RLM 70/71
    B ) plausible scheme wearing RLM 81/82
C ) An accurate scheme of RLM 74/75.

    I chose option A.
So that meant the usual black primer and a slowly/randomly filled in top coat.

    super fancy masks

    Weathering has begun

Since I was doing my own paint scheme, I chose to cut paint masks for the crosses and unit markings

which was fortunate, because the kit decals exploded on contact with water.

I managed to salvage some stencils, and took the skull and cross bones from the decal stash.
Marked up and after a clear coat.

Some airframe chipping was done using both the hairspray and the Prismacolor pencil techniques

    Which left the fiddly bits.
My favorite way of doing antennas was utilized. Wire rings, thin tube and EZLine

And with a few paint touchups, the Me410 is heading to the cabinet!

Now my new bench is broken in, its back to that big MkXII Spitfire!
    Thanks for watching.

Hello!  This is my recently completed build of the Hasegawa 1/32 Bf109K-4 kit.  I've had this kit + a bunch of aftermarket goodies on the shelf for a while and thought that I should crank it out before the new Kotare K-4 kit hits the market. Some of the add-ons I used on this build are:

Eagle Editions Bf109K-4 Cockpit Set RB Productions Bf109K-4 Wheel Wells AMUR Reaver Bf109K Airscrew Barracuda Bf109G/K Main Wheels Quickboost Bf109G/K Exhausts Eagle Cal Bf109K Decal Sheet #32074 1ManArmy Bf109G-6 Stencil Masks
The aircraft I tried to depict is this K-4 flown by Uffz. Martin Deskau, III./JG3.

Most of the markings are painted, either with custom cut masks produced at home using the Silhouette Portrait 2 craft cutter and few of the 1ManArmy maintenance stencils. AK Real Colors (first generation)paints were used for the main camo scheme.
