  1. Thanks for all the kind comments guys. If you missed my Spitfire Mike, its here: https://forum.largescaleplanes.com/index.php?/topic/99153-hobbyboss-132-spitfire-vb/
  2. Hi Kurok, your approach may be difficult as the frame provides all the strength to the model. The fit issues I experienced, although I still remain uncertain as to why they happened, I suspect might be because there is a difference between the round shape of the main fuselage and the engine cowling which really wants to be left off. If I had of left the engine out it may have helped, but I also think the tolerences are very very tight so no matter what you do, lots of dry fitting may be the answer. I'd be keen to see your progress when you tackle her. Also don't discount my pretty mediocre modelling skills. cheers BT
  3. Gobsmackingly good. You've inspired me to want to do one now. Thanks for sharing. cheers BT
  4. Thanks everyone for the very warm welcome to the forum and the nice comments about the models. I've been a lurker for a while here and there are some incredibly well built aircraft in this forum. I hope to learn a few tips and tricks for my next one. cheers BT
  5. This was my second crack at a 1/32 aircraft model. The HobbyBoss spitfire is an excellent kit with great fit and good detail. Its far far cheaper than the equivalent Tamiya and I honestly can't imagine I would have produced any better model if I had the Tamiya kit. I settled on the Tamiya XF 81,82,83 series of paints which worked quite well with an Ultimate weathering wash for the panel lines. Its a very enjoyable build and highly recommended if you want to do one in this scale. I couldn't bring myself to weathering it very much as I didn't want to wreck the paintwork, so sorry to disappoint all the realism fans out there. I call it factory fresh! cheers BT
  6. This is my 4th 1/32 WW2 fighter build which I just finished this week. The Zoukei-Mura kit has been designed to be built with a complete interior in the fuselage, wings and engines so its not like a typical fuselage that comes in two halves. Rather its a series of panels that are laid over the frame and so comes with its own challenges in trying to line everything up. This kit is not for the feint hearted and needs plenty of patience. I had to use a bit of filler where the engine cowling didn't line up and had some considerable gaps and mismatches. So its not what I call a great kit and my finish has heaps of flaws, but I was happy to just finish it. I used AK Extreme metal paints with a combination of Steel and Stainless Steel. Interiors were painted with Tamiya XF-4 Yellow Green as an approximate of chromate yellow. That's it for a while. I won't post my other 1/32 fighter. Its a Spitfire and I'm pretty sure everyone has seen enough Spitfires..:) cheers BT
  7. This is my third 1/32 scale kit and it was a real gem. Its a top of the range 1/32 Corsair and its every bit the quality for the price I paid for it. Detail - Incredible Fit - perfect instructions - Excellent Decals - too thick, cartograf are better (only flaw for Tamiya kits unfortunately...) Challenge - requires patience but its a very enjoyable build Result - Very satisfied For the paints I've used a mix of Tamiya XF17 Sea Blue, XF8 Flat Blue and XF2 Flat White in about a 5:2:1 ratio. The assembly turns out to be multiple kits in one. There is the cockpit assembly There is the engine assembly, which I added some fuse wire to as the kit didn't reflect all the pipes that are quite prominent for radial engines. The undercarriage And the final finished product. Its been a very pleasing build and being a carrier aircraft I didn't give it the typical pacific island hard weathered look, just a bit of rough marks here and there. I hope you enjoy viewing as much as i enjoyed building. cheers BT
  8. I've recently discovered this forum which is a coincidence as I have recently started building large scale aircraft. I typically build aircraft in 1/48 and 1/72 scale. I took the plunge September last year and had a crack. I wanted to do a subject that is my favourite aircraft from WW2 and not too huge. This was also reasonably priced (compared to other 1/32 kits at least). The kit went together okay. There were definitely seamlines around the engines, the fuselage and underneath, but noting a bit of filler and some sanding won't fix. I also found the eduard cockpit photoetch which seems to be hard to find but it makes a huge difference. The kit does come with some photoetch for the seatbelts which I used and it also comes with a bit of film for the instruments with a clear plastic piece to fit over the top but I wasn't happy with the detail on that so went with the photoetch. The camouflage was a lot of research and trial and error. I eventually settled on: SMS PL189 - Lightblau (RLM76) for underneath SMS PL77 - Forest Green (FS34079) for the lighter green Tamiya XF-27 - Black Green for the darker green. Overall I'm happy with the way it turned out and I'm definitely a fan of 1/32 scale for WW2 aircraft, but its the start of the learning curve so hopefully I get better as I build more. I'll post a few of my other works here for interest. cheers BT
