  1. Thanks for sharing - showing, looking sweet. If you are up to it after the cockpit is accessible again, you could remedy the rear view mirror issue by extracting one of the thin "foil" strips from one of those rectangular plastic anti-theft things they attach to pricey items at stores, cut to size with sharp scissors, glue it on with canopy glue. HTH
  2. Agree IIRC it was applied on some, likely depending on Base location.
  3. Yup, can't recall exact name but we sprayed it from a white can on certain areas. Like a waxy - greasy coating against corrosion. Sometimes in the hellhole I think.
  4. BTW, what if they had made it like their 1/48 kit (same box art) with clear cast wings for that see through look?
  5. Ebay seller (in Poland) has it listed around $50 shipped to PNW USA - Just AFTER I ordered the CH-54 from them! I am a fan of combined shipping savings...
  6. Some said it would stay up and I had saved some things here and there, but am one that would've appreciated some sort of heads up on this in order to take the time to get what I could as a final run. It was a nice website!
  7. Yes, good to see you back Bill. I just checked and didn't see a tweak list from Thierry on the kit, and I have yet to build mine, but do know there are some areas you might decide to correct as Trumpeter did a sort of mix of A and E items. Speed brakes, slime lights, etc. Seen a list of this somewhere...
  8. Indeed, and if it is to be the same boxing as the Balilla, the dimensions are; 12.5" L x 8.75" w x 2" H at 1.8 lb. if that helps with your calculations. If you come up with them, LMK as I also have stateside interest.
  9. Except at Eielson AFB Alaska when the Army fellas showed up at the club and cut our evening short!
  10. And if no photo of the housing I can add that the tether has a shackle at the end (similar to a mountain climbing carabiner) that clips to an eyelet center of forward housing wall. Housing is a red/brown fiberglass about 2 feet deep, same shape as opening. HTH
  11. And another bonus is you don't end up with a smashed box with ripped corner like mine! Also can get a looksie at the Value Gear stowage sets first hand.
  12. Largest and about the only PNW show. There's also the yearly Seattle club get together at Boeing MOF the 18-19th of this month. Moving here years ago I found out a club contest or show in the PNW is not very often, when you'd think there would be more with all the gray weather. Had it good in California where I could easily attend two, or sometimes five shows a year without lots of driving. Maybe with the complete rebuild of the Seattle Convention Center, IPMS Seattle can bid up a Nationals...?!
  13. Because it doesn't work just as well. Alcohol also stinks, evaporates too fast, and is not a base substance of Future as Ammonia. Future is a floor wax first, use in this hobby is an after effect. Johnson wax designed it to be diluted with ammonia as it is commonly used with cleaning. That is why Windex is the most used thinner. Here is more; http://nswbgmodelling.airleague.com.au/PlasticModelPage/TheCompleteFuture.htm You will have more success with ammonia, or if it stinks, use Windex.
  14. Sounds like what I know as Jeweler's Beading tool set. Wasn't cheap, but very nice set with friction handle that leaves a circle on surface, or can be used firmly as you explained.
  15. Johnson wax Future or Klear is thinned with Ammonia. Pure clear Ammonia, not "sudsy" or "Lemon scent" which back in the day was readily available, but now may be a bit tough to find. It is also a good way to remove it, but test an area first. AND if you shoot it thinned through an airbrush, be sure to flush and clean the airbrush right away as the Ammonia can attack the chrome coating.
  16. It is the precharge for the tailhook (hence, all F-4's) and yellow cap is stainless Shrader valve (same as on gear struts) to pressurize system like airing up a tire, except much more pressure!
  17. The beige trim you see is a fiberglass strip protecting the acrylic canopy ends. It shows up on some more than others. I mask up canopy as usual for clear areas, then first paint the beige, then mask again - enough to just cover beige trim, paint model, then remove masks. HTH Nice F-4
  18. Sure others have a more direct reply, but I would try and see if there's a VA-65 group on facebook, or club webpage? You have the setup for the finished kit arranged, maybe keep at it and leave space for the patch for the day you locate it. Good luck on the search!
  19. Finally a way to really use - compliment the Zwilling resin conversion released years ago. The reason the Zwilling existed. Which in itself is a huge model.
  20. Yup, good friend I worked with in Calif. works there and on these ATM. They are in for winter maint. He has been pestered for some walkaround pics.
  21. Plus it's a good place to hang any of your other helo's under!
  22. Be great if they did the glider version, then make the Zwilling with tow cable - both hung on ceiling.
  23. Thanks for the heads up! I see they DID have several, now not so much...going fast
