Impressive, I have one of those lurking in the stash and I hope one day to build it, if it turns out anywhere near as nice as yours I will be a happy man.

Nice conversion, I have never tried to build a PR Spitfire but want to one day, so I will follow along.

As I replied to the Britmodeller thread, the box art does take me back to a Junior school Dennis looking at the Airfix counter in the Woolworths shop handily across the road from his school, this was the start of a love affair with this hobby that has continued to this day.
Sadly though Airfix do not have 1/32 kits in their range, though there is a very tempting 1/24 scale Spitfire IX.

Look away for a day and on you have marched, I also dispensed with the landing lights on the advice of Chris Thomas who was a great help with the build.
And you look like you have the rest well in hand, keep up the good work.

Thank you Dennis. It is a long way from perfect but I am glad you like it.

(and duly noted in your profile that you are from acros the water from my home town!)

    Moving on steadily:

    That was yesterday, then today:

...with some light sanding.  A coat of primer will reveal how good it is but I don't think it all needs to be super-smooth and precise because this is a patch after all.

And talking of patches, some bits missed from the MDC model:

I'm rubbish at scribing but I think they'll look ok under some paint.  And whilst looking for the positions of these panels, a vent or two to add:

At least one image from Alain's walkaround....thanks Alain!  I'll be doing these as ever using lead foil over a former carved from resin....10 minute job.

    hi all,
I had this kit in the attic for a while, as usual accompanied, over time, by various aftermarket sets and documentary material.

looking for inspiration here and there I found my ideal subject on YouTube:

and, encouraged by the availability of the AIMS modification set, I decided to launch myself into the reproduction of the PA944 kite, having dedicated decals printed, together with others as part of a larger and long-term project.

In fact, the PA 944, although well documented by the film and several photos that portray it in different phases of its operational life, was not considered by any decal manufacturer, at least in 1/32 scale.

my intention is to complete the model with the insignia documented before September 1944, when it landed on its belly, but in any case after the invasion stripes had been partially covered.

and here we are. a healthy, honest 2014 Revell kit, my bread!

accompanied by a good amount of resin from the AIMS set, complete not only with the optional air intake, but also with several cameras, complete tail with retractable wheel, fuel pump bumps, oxygen cylinders, dedicated control panels for the cockpit and detailed instructions.
Furthermore, John is always very kind and available to help with any further information.

well, here we go, I'd say!
you can start from the cockpit, from the installation of the cameras in the fuselage, or from the wing.
I started from the latter, calmly... first I need to eliminate the weapons and the related bumps and spent cartridge ejection holes.

a little job to do without haste, and with the right tools.

    wanting to preserve close details.

on the belly things are decidedly simpler:

and while I was here with scalpel and saw in hand, I also made room for the resin landing gear compartments.

the rendering of the external surfaces is perhaps a little heavy, like riveting, but overall I like it, and the fit seems more than decent. well done Revell!

while that of the particular nose of the PR shows some shrinkage problems: a good 2mm is missing in length!

since it seems like a problem that can be solved without inconveniencing John, the least worst thing I can think of to do is this: separate the nose into at least two parts, and try to adapt it to the Revell fuselage, adding after material to rejoin the two nose's parts.

    sequitur...
    cheers, Paolo

A coincidence of names Tim, but she was the mother of a chap who is/was a member here for a while, Nick Thomas by name. We had quite a lot of dialogue about various things and he generously sent me a copy of the book that he wrote about her life called “Naomi the Aviatrix” written from her diaries which included pre-war gliding with the Germans and wartime ATA duties. A truly fascinating woman who lived life to the full.

Back to the Typhoon; people tend to rubbish Facebook but it has its uses. Yesterday I put this question to a Typhoon/Tempest specialist group:

Quite a lot of discussion ensued but Chris Thomas, who knows “quite a lot” about Typhoons confirmed my understanding:

Well done Facebook, I now have quite a tricky hole to drill out!

Thanks guys - I'd like to credit Airfix, Airscale and Quinta for the details - and shortly, Aerocraft for the 'e' wing conversion parts.

I'm just the assembler of others' hard work!

Go for it Dennis - it's been a fun, and rewarding, project to stick together - so far at least...
