BloorwestSiR
Thanks Peter! While I was letting the Arado dry, I started on the cockpit. I painted the tub using rubber black so it wasn't too dark. I then painted the dials and buttons in light grey. I then gave it a dry brush using grey from the Tamiya weathering sets. It shows up a bit better in person than in the photo. Czech models supplies pre-painted PE for the IP panels but they're in black. I tried printing over the black but did a terrible job of it. Thankfully I was able to rinse it off and I'll just leave them black. Anthony in NZ and Zero77
BloorwestSiR
Finally an update with some progress on the build. I assembled and then installed the front and rear IP and coamings. During some dry fitting, I noticed that part R11 needed to placed on the cockpit tub and then be glued to the side of the cockpit. If it was attached first to the cockpit side as per the instructions, there was no way for the tub to fit past. Here it is being clamped in place while the CA sets. BloorwestSiR
The next problem is the seats. They won't fit in this way if you put the ejection rails in first and then attach the seats to them. Also, there's a size difference between the AMS seats and the kit ones. It's not a great comparison shot as the pour block is still on the kit seat which is the yellow resin. I decided to figure this out before painting the seats. I found that by putting the seats in sideways and then turning them 90°, you could get past the sides. You can then slide the guide rails down and glue them into place. LSP_Paul, Viking73, Zero77 and 3 others
dmthamade
Yup!! Thanks, Carl. Makes it easier to see what i'm in for. The seat looks taller and wider than the kit part, just what is needed. I did the same install procedure, turn sideways and install. The rails i'll try to install with the seat, I don't mind trimming them down as the lower parts will not be seen. I can shim them a bit as well. Don Harold
BloorwestSiR
You're welcome Don! I took a look at the canopy after you mentioned it in your thread and yup, it should be angled. It's funny that on the stencil placement guide, it shows it angled. Back to some progress on my build. I painted the insides of the intakes in silver. It's not polished but I figured that it'll be hard to notice once they're installed. And once dry, I glued them to the fuselage. Hopefully the seams won't be too bad. dmthamade
It's funny Yeah, there's a lot of funny with this kit....Big step installing the intakes, Will be great!! Don
BloorwestSiR
Well, getting the other side to fit required a bit of, surgery. I checked and it would be very difficult to see that there's a hole in the side of the duct. And here they are installed on the fuselage finally: There were still a few small gaps to fill: Viking73 and Zero77
BloorwestSiR
A bit more progress. I braced the rear fuselage section to improve the fit of the wing/fuselage joint. Which worked really well. Unfortunately, the front joint wasn't as pretty. So there's going to be a bit of filler and sanding involved. alaninaustria
Great build so far mate! I always really liked the T-Bird! I have fancied getting myself this kit at some point so I'll be taking notes from your build!

dmthamade
Great to see you back at the Silver Star, Carl!! The spreader bar sure does eliminate a list of fit problems, doesn't it? While waiting for the seats i've been thinking of a way to fix that front gap, might just have to get the filler out for this one. Don
ScoobyDoo
Nice build, a CT-133 is my next project too! The Belcher decals are excellent.
BloorwestSiR
Thanks everyone! Don, I'm definitely going to need some filler that's for sure. I might glue in some thin sheet styrene on to help it fair in better and have less of a step. Carl
BloorwestSiR
With the lower wing in place, I painted the wheel wells before attaching them. The small triangular bits are pieces of styrene to fair in the step. I then glued the bays in place. I added a small stub to the top of the bays to support the upper wing. amurray
You've just about got the most difficult steps behind you. I especially like the way you spread the rear fuselage to make the join better. Good work!
