James Rademaker Posted September 12, 2023 Posted September 12, 2023 Hi guys, I just ran out of Future. Had a bottle for 25 years and now I’m searching all over for another bottle. I have read that it and it’s replacement have been discontinued. I picked up a bottle of Holloway House “Quick Shine”. Brushed it on my 109 and I am not thrilled with the results. Does anyone know of a clear acrylic replacement for Future. I don’t want to pay $60.00 bucks on eBay. Thanks, Jim Troy Molitor 1
TankBuster Posted September 14, 2023 Posted September 14, 2023 Try Alclad Aqua Gloss, can be used for dipping or airbrush. Cheers. AlbertD, chukw and Woody V 3
Confusionreigns178 Posted September 19, 2023 Posted September 19, 2023 There are several products on the market that will do much the same job as Future / Pledge. Of course, you pay a great deal of money for the word "modelling" being printed on the label and it comes in a much smaller bottle than the old-school floor polishes, but it will be overall less money than any surviving bottle of Pledge. Have a look at Gunze Sangyo (Mr. Color), AK Interactive, MIG Productions and all the model-manufacturers. I've also read that the clear, acrylic paint-finisher (fixative) you can buy in artist-supply shops can be very good, but I've not tried it myself. Hope this helps. Chris.
Juggernut Posted September 19, 2023 Posted September 19, 2023 (edited) I still have a bottle of Pledge (aka Future) but I've read this stuff is just as good and is available at places like Home Depot, Walmart, etc.: Quick Shine Multi-Floor Finish Edited September 19, 2023 by Juggernut corrected spelling errors KUROK 1
KUROK Posted September 21, 2023 Posted September 21, 2023 (edited) Guys, he said he got a bottle of Holloway House...and didn't like it. He's looking for real Future. Sadly you may have to pay ebay price but at least it will last for years. I keep my old bottle of Future in the deep freezer. Does not seem to affect it. I take out small jars periodically. Freeze/thaw repeatedly does not seem to affect it. Edited September 21, 2023 by KUROK
Troy Molitor Posted October 7, 2024 Posted October 7, 2024 So I had an issue trying to find this original post but I'm glad I did. As James mentioned his future polish ran out. I had my stashed bottle of Future get a bit stale while I was working in Singapore for 3 plus years while the bottle was in storage. Finding it and trying to recently use it I was disheartened to find the Future solution had a slight brownish tint to it while trying to use it. Bummer. I was trying to get a set of canopies dipped and ready to paint. Woody's solution however changed that. I found a bottle of Quick Shine at
Troy Molitor Posted October 7, 2024 Posted October 7, 2024 Walmart for $11 USD and I'm loving the results. Thanks Woody!
Modelboy Posted October 7, 2024 Posted October 7, 2024 My funny modeling story goes like this. When I retired and got back into modeling I cleaned up the stash and picked up the brand new bottle of Future and thought this can’t be any good anymore and threw it in the trash.
Troy Molitor Posted October 7, 2024 Posted October 7, 2024 I just did the same thing. I had a slight brownish tint to the Future bottle I had for many years. I took some pictures of a test bed project Bf-109 canopy for a friend of mine (here on LSP) and set it next to an un-dipped canopy copy. The future canopy was far superior to the kit canopy. Reluctantly, I binned the future bottle anyway last week over the slight brownish tint. The bottle sat in a hot garage near Palm Springs while I was in Singapore for almost 4 years. However! I dipped the Do-335B-2 canopy last evening in the new Quick Shine and they turned out Christal clear. Impressed indeed. $11. Walmart.
