daveculp
Work stalled for a while as I finished making a new tool. I had previously bought a mini-lathe for painting/sanding/scribing cylindrical parts. The lathe turned too fast to use on plastic so I set about replacing the motor with a slower one. I found a suitable 50 rpm geared motor on Amazon and printed up a bracket for it. The bracket also holds the power plug and switch. I then printed an adapter part to attach a drill chuck to the motor shaft. This has taken a long time. Today I finally got around to painting the rockets warheads. allthumbs, LSP_Kevin, TaffyMan and 4 others
daveculp
After progressively beefing up the landing gear it looks like this version will hold. I printed them in April and have had them holding up the model since then. They're still intact! This is quite a relief since the next option would be switching to a different material. I've been using PLA, and although it is easy to work with it does have a reputation for weakening over time as it absorbs moisture from the air. For non-load bearing parts this isn't a problem. The gear test was done in an upstairs bedroom so I get my dining room table back. LSP_Kevin, patricksparks and Landrotten Highlander
Out2gtcha
Man, I really wish I could see your pics! I've tried, and tried, and at first thought it was because I was looking at them on my companies laptop, though a possible firewall or net web they have. However, I've been looking on my personal phone, as well as my personal PC and laptop and cant see the pics on any of them.

It's because they are hosted on an HTTP website Richard

Violator1991
I'd love to see that, like many other here. Is there not a way to refresh all pictures?
daveculp
I think we may have already beat the http vs. https horse to death, but maybe I need to write a how-to for the "Posting Images" subforum? One thing I won't be doing is buying an https certificate for the purpose of delivering the images securely.
Out2gtcha
I can understand that for sure, especially with the extra expense. I opened up the pics in a separate window and the gear definitely looks good!

I forgot we had already been around this loop a few times, I accidentally dropped into one of your threads. daveculp
Well, the stress test has been ongoing for a year now, and this morning I heard a disconcerting thump from upstairs. I had a good idea what it was: My verdict is that PLA doesn't work for this use case. I'll have to try again with a different material, maybe PETG. I'll wait until we get full Summer heat in the garage since I don't have a heated cabinet to put over the printer. I've read that PLA weakens over time due to water absorption. In this case the parts were covered with enamel paint, which apparently doesn't help. The PLA weakened anyway. These slow-motion failure modes are annoying -- Dave LSP_Kevin, Landrotten Highlander and Citadelgrad 1
