Greg W
I stumbled across an eggplane build by Jamie Haggo, which looked like so much fun, I wanted to try my hand at doing something similar. Inspiring eggplane build I like Japanese Phantoms so the kit choice was preordained. I am adding a few things to spruce it up, so here goes nothing... Greg W
The pilots head is not so hot, so I grabbed a leftover 1/32 Tamiya figure to compare. Looked close enough for me so I decided to see if I could fit the pilot and his seat into the tiny airframe. Test fitting showed that there was just enough room and it was off to the races, cutting and seeing what I could get away with. Greg W
Before the engine detail was added, I removed the molded on tailhook. It will be replaced with the modified Eduard tailhook that, fortunately for me, is included with the 648023 Brassin set. Greg W
A friend of mine, an outstanding modeler (and a new LSP member) Albert Moore, gave me an old, 1/72 Monogram F-4 that has been collecting dust since I don't build 72nd scale much. It turns out that the landing gear are perfectly sized to graft on to the little eggplane! The wheel well doors are amazingly good, even for a modern 1/72 kit. Greg W
Some work on the Tamiya pilot. Guitar string for the oxygen hose and some minor repositioning of the left arm and legs. I filled the gap in the left shoulder with Milliput. Edited October 10, 2019 by GDW mpk
Greg W
Progress on the interior, which doesn't have to be really great because the pilot and ejection seat obscure the view of most everything inside. Side consoles from the Trumpeter A-4M cockpit tub were glued on each side of the cockpit. In order to fit the pilot and his ejection seat, I had to cut off the legs below the knee and remove the lower portions of the seat. The seat cushion behind the pilot was way to thick to use so a thinner, Milliput replacement was made. The joystick from the Trumpeter A-4M was a leftover that I used here as well. Next up, instrument panel and instrument panel cover. Edited October 10, 2019 by GDW TorbenD, Stevepd and mpk 2
Greg W
My first attempt at making the instrument panel cover was way oversized but invaluable, as far as figuring out how to make such a thing. I definitely am several attempts away from a useable version though... Edited October 10, 2019 by GDW mpk and Kagemusha
