Ferry NL
Great work Pete! The instructions indeed are poor... I have the Eduard engines and, although it seems very unlikely these are not correct, will check those as well...
Pete Fleischmann
Hello all- The engines are done- Here is a look at one of the new, geared motors as compared to the original pager motors I was going to use- The geared motor is on the bottom.. The new motors are smaller in diameter, so I had to turn a sleeve insert to fit in the space behind the crankcase..this was easy to do by chucking a section of styrene tube into a power drill and turning it down to the correct outer diameter- a few closer looks- Busy now assembling the props and getting them balanced to spin true- more to follow.. sluggo
Very nice! I recommend you test one of the motors in a spare sleeve outside the model to see how long it can run before the case heats up too much. If you only plan to run it for short bursts, It's not likely an issue. Looking forward to the end product! Keep up the good work.
Silver Dollar
Beautiful engine work. I'm eager to wee how you wire up the engines to the power source.
Pete Fleischmann
Thanks all for the kind words and encouragement! ...took a break from the engines, and decided to have some fun. I want my B-17 shot up...sooo I shot it up! This is the left horizontal stab; blown off by flak- More to do here...and there will be other battle damage...but this was fun- ...More next post- marauderdriver
Pete Fleischmann
This all clamps down tight...with a little pressure..a little more fit work to do- ...Nothing like hacking up your $250 kit! Just old school Shep Paine techniques here..nothing new- Cheers Pete Out2gtcha, marauderdriver, Rdrunner and 1 other
Out2gtcha
Noice! I wore out my 1st addition Shep Paine.....and I picked up the 1999 addition awhile back, and it's still as relevant as it was in 1981. Looks killer! Silver Dollar
Shep Paine alright. I've got a copy of the book but I forgot where I put it. The damage looks real.
Guest Uncle Fester
Great work, Pete! I love models with special effects. It's gonna be an attention-grabber everywhere you show it. The combat damage is definitely going to help tell the story. All sorts of things the imagination can do while making something like this. Masterful, clever and fun! Pete Fleischmann
Thanks UF! ...and the carnage continues! To blow apart the elevator, I didn't think I could thin the kit plastic enough to simulate torn fabric, so I vac formed some skins for the elevator instead. I Used .010 sheet, knowing that it would pull down to about .005. Plenty thin once I sanded it down. Here is the vac forming process- I sliced the kit elevator about where the damage was, and used the kit elevator as support under the skins. Here's a look at the skins layed-over the kit elevator- Before I layed down the skins, I bored-through the kit elevator with a power drill and bit...all the way through..in the spots I wanted to show puncture wounds. These holes would be pressed through the vac skin later- More next post- Edited February 2, 2014 by Pete Fleischmann fastzx, Rdrunner, Wurzacher and 2 others
Pete Fleischmann
More torn metal and fabric- Still need to clean up the trailing edge and dress the seams on the vac skin...but having fun- Cheers Pete Edited February 2, 2014 by Pete Fleischmann Wurzacher, Rdrunner and Iain
