big matt
The Has gunports are right Peter, the invasion stripes throw things off a bit. As Chris said they are indeed parallel with the ground. It was cool that they got them correct as most other kits had them inline with the wing. Get on that alclad Peter!!!
Guest Peterpools
Phil Appreciate the kind words. At first i wasn't sure about the value of the Model stand but after taking the plunge for it, I'm convinced it is now one of my important and helpful building tools as well. Guest Peterpools
Matt Thanks for helping to clear up the gunport issue. I think things will look a lot better once the guns are installed and the assembly blends into the leading edge of the wing. Looking forward to the next round of update photos for the Helldiver! scvrobeson
Hey there Peter! Haven't heard from you in a while, hope you're doing well. I was looking around at P-47 builds, since I'm reading a book about P-47 pilots in France after D-Day. What ever happened to this great build, are you still working on it? Hopefully you get chugging along and finished this one. Matt
Guest Peterpools
UPDATE: The Farmingdale Jug is back and on the bench It's been over two years since the Jug has been worked on (I can't believe how fast time has flown by) and it was one of my first builds, returning to the hobby after nearly a 30 year hiatus. Since putting the Jug in mothballs and working on other 32nd scale kits, I've learned a lot and my dormant skills have slowly been coming back and slow is the key word. After finishing the Spit, I decided to fire up the Jug build and add her to the collection. I was amazed at all the errors and overlooked mistakes there were. At first I tired to correct what I could but after a few nights, I decided to bite the bullet and start over with as new Hasegawa Jug. All I was able to salvage from the the original Jug was the MDC cockpit and it had it's problems as well. I spent another few nights cleaning the front office up and redoing what I could without going to far and risk losing the expensive MDC cockpit. As of now, the fuselage is glued up and drying. The lower exhaust cowl flaps were thinned out and new exhaust with waist gates were made from Evergreen rod and sheet. Happy with my progress, I decided to start the wings while the fuselage is setting up. This time around, I will using the Eduard Exterior PE for some extra details to add a bit more interest here and there. I re-read my old build thread and am adding the new part two build to it, so comparison to the old and new would be easier. I found my old notes from the original build which had a host of info on the Big P&W R2800, lots of information from the gang and a host of suggestions from Ron on areas that needed to be fixed and brought up to snuff. This Jug will be finished as Daddy Rabbit flown by Capt N.D.Stanley of the 366 FG with EagleCals EC#105 decal sheet. So here are the first build photos of the New Farmingdale Jug. Enjoy and thanks for looking in.
Guest TimC
Hiya Peter: Is that cockpit Dull Dark Green or Interior Green? It looks interior green to my eye on this computer. Don't shoot me but if it is interior green it's not supposed to be. P-47's had Dull Dark Green cockpits, not interior green. The only jugs that ever wore interior green in the cockpit were the P-47G's build by Curtiss and the quality was substandard and they never left the states. It's too late to correct it now but on your next jug, remember to use Dull Dark Green. (similar to FS34092). On the bright side, the Interior Green does show off the detail of the MDC cockpit quite well. You mentioned in the first post that you searched all the builds on LSP and discovered that the cockpit was interior green and someone posted a forumula for mixing it. I'm gonna have to do a search and find those build threads. Edited April 28, 2013 by TimC
Guest Peterpools
Tim Thanks for the information but I'm really not sure as I painted the MDC cockpit over two years ago. I did go back and read the original cockpit painting segment and I mixed my own interior green: 1 part black to 10 parts zinc chromate. I also took a good look at the cockpit and the actual green is much darker then in the photo. I processed the photos in Adobe Lightroom 4 and bumped up the shadow slider to lighten the shadows so the details could be easily seen. Unfortunately, it also lightened the green too much. I'll post a few new images tomorrow or Tuesday night of the cockpit with a closer color match to the model itself. I'm sure my home made brew is somewhere in between interior green and dark green. If it was possible, I wuold have stripped the cockpit and done a complete rebuilt of it, but it was just too risky.

Guest Peterpools
Iain Much appreciate. Feels really good to be working on the Jug again and looking forward to finishing her the right way this time. Hopefully, she will look nearly as good as yours.
Guest Peterpools
Howard Thanks guy. Appreciate the kind words on how the front office came out. The MDC cockpit, as I rememeber it, was a tough build all on it's own, especially at my stage of the game back then
