VintageEagle Posted November 24, 2024 Posted November 24, 2024 Hello, What are you using to glue 3D printed parts? Superglue or epoxy? Superglue is a bit brittle in my experience. Is epoxy slightly more flexible? Thanks, Roger
Dandiego Posted November 24, 2024 Posted November 24, 2024 I use both. But predominantly super glue. Epoxy gets the nod for load bearing joins due to its superior strength. Violator1991, Iain and Michael931080 3
Zola25 Posted November 24, 2024 Posted November 24, 2024 I use super glue but for large or load bearing joints I also use some Magic Dust. It really adds a world of extra strength to the joint I don´t really use epoxy. I find it too messy but thats just me /Niels CRAZY IVAN5 and Oldbaldguy 2
Avaman23 Posted December 15, 2024 Posted December 15, 2024 I only use PLA for the individual parts of my 3-D printed planes and prefer to use Superglue as it gives a really good bond. Only problem is the need to locate matching parts accurately when contact is made as you only have one chance to get it right. Sometimes I have printed a jig to give the correct alignment and this has worked perfectly. For other joints where you need more time to position things correctly or for guaranteed strength and durability, I use the longer setting Araldite Epoxy Resin adhesive. Not sure what would be best for other filament types or resin printing. I guess others can comment on this.
wunwinglow Posted December 16, 2024 Posted December 16, 2024 Try HIPS instead of that PLA stuff. It is EXACTLY the same plastic that Tamiya, Airfix etc. use in their kits so your printed parts will be 100% compatible in all respects with your kit parts, and each other, will glue perfectly with standard kit glues and cements, will prime, paint, fill, file, sand, exactly the same way, will drill, score, exactly the same way, won't warp, absorb moisture, in fact, it is better in every single way than PLA !!! OK, it needs slightly higher temperatures, and an enclosure to keep the air warm around it, but beyond that, I can't think of a single reason why one would use PLA when HIPS is available!! thierry laurent and Iain 2
