I didn't think much about a 1/32 Whirlwind when I first learned of it. I built the old Airfix model when a wee lad. It was very nice. (The kit. Not my build).

However, now I find myself chomping at the bit. And looking forward to this kit.

I think of it ALL the time!!!

I just saw a student play a gig. He did a fine job. As did the rest of the band. There is still a live scene for original music here in Sydney. Hopefully it will reclaim a somewhat normal niche.

I feel lucky to be able to play at all compared to so many other places. I hope soon we can all view it in our rear view mirrors.

I have found this site to be a wellspring of inspiration. Not only in the builds, but also in the wonderful images of stunning aircraft. One cannot help but be in awe more often than not. Often our very own Martin will spring up with a photo one needs at just the right moment.

How he does it is beyond me.

So I figured it may be a good idea to post images of aircraft that are to you, beautiful.

I recall building the old 1/72 Airfix Hawker Hunter as a small child and when it was complete I was in awe at its lines. It never occurred to me just how lovely it was until I could see it in three dimensions.

An aircraft that may even leave birds in awe.

I am very interested to see what my fellow travellers in this modeling world find beautiful, and perhaps why? Please don't be shy. Post away.

    Hi guys.
Using my collection of 1138 photos of Hurricanes as reference, I spent the weekend weathering my BoB Mk.I. A number of photos of BoB era Hurricanes show very heavy weathering all over the metal areas, predominantly the inner wing area, and also stretching out to the mid and outer wing. Not only are many heavily affected by scuff marks from shoes, but also show staining from fluid streaking from the engine cowlings and adjacent panels behind the engine.

303 Sqn Hurricane photos show gun soot flowing further back across the wing than I'd guessed. The belly had me guessing and I screwed up quite a few weathering attempts before becoming happy with my result. I added pin washes, chalk etc and removed them all. I started random ideas I'd never heard of and forget exactly how I got to this point.

I think I'm happy with it...........

    So anyway...

I now have to repaint the wheel wells, weather the undercarriage and canopy, find where I placed all the rest of the bits, and complete it.

    Thanks for having a look.

Oh no, I was thinking Riefield armour.

I never was the sharpest knife in the drawer. And it keeps getting worse. My memory is deteriorating rapidly. Too many chemicals have destroyed my brain. It can be seen on scans. I wonder how long I've got.

This is all happening in real time.

Having brushed off excess chalk and pigment, I just gave it a flat clear coat.

I am making this up as I go along. Unsure what next to try?

I now have well over 1000 photos of hurricanes. Some BoB hurricanes weathered greatly, others not so much. I guess it was due to how busy they were.

Here's a couple of reference photos I am using.

    Thanks guys.
I worked all day. Then I went and had special Thai pineapple rice.

It took a long time to paint it. I used my H&S Silverline airbrush with a 1.5 needle and nozzle. The paint job, including the undercoat is amazingly thin.

Then came the decals. Urgh. I was to discover I'm not a fan of Trumpeter decals.
I will give them props for being astoundingly forgiving.

You may remember this is not a real build for me. I'm using it to prepare for my next Trumpeter hurricane. I'll give this one away. The next one I shall keep. The hurricane holds a very special place in my heart. I distinctly recall telling my mum when I was 7, "The hurricane shot down 75% of German planes during the Battle of Britain."
She remained unimpressed. I even remember where we were. It was a sunny day, Box Hill Melbourne, 1971.

    So anyway...

I do this all the time. Not with adults, but kids. I support the hobby as much as possible. At present 4 boys are working on kits I gave them, along with pain glue, cutters etc. Since my studio went with Covid I have been teaching at home. I live in a small flat. My work table is right near where I teach.

I prepare for this. I have egg planes, cars, aeroplanes tanks etc. One 9 year old, Ethan, is completing a formula 1 car. He expressed an interest in tanks as well, just last week. So I gave him a Tamiya 1/48 King Tiger. Plus the gear with it including what's needed. His father looked quizzically at me, I told him: I like to promote the hobby. This is unlike a PC game. This is tangible, one gets to hold  the model. Plus this leads no knowledge. His father is very happy. He knows I have my student's best interests in mind.

Another boy is working on an egg plane. He was surprised how much fun it is. I like this kid's family. They rescued me a few weeks ago following a serious fall. I am happy to loan this kid a $7000.00 drum kit to use. I have too many kits and room only for one in my little flat.

I gave both this completed model plus a boxed kit with tools to a boy named, Sarch. Sarch's dad is a bass player. Sarch turned 9 and this part of his gift.

Here's another boy, Jarrah. I built him the spitfire mpdel his gran gave him. He didn't know what to do. Afterwards I gave him a kit.

I gave The Machine (John Paul, aged 12) a sparmax airbrush, full set of paints and a small compressor. He was very happy.

For me this is very real. I have a super power. My power is to be able to see the potential in others. The greatness. Just yesterday I passed onto a wonderful student a 22" Turkish cymbal. Her cymbal wasn't cutting it at a gig I saw her play last week. If I can inspire them, I will try.

Several models in my stash are there for this reason. It's great, especially watching a kid's expression. Yesterday Yolanda, was surprised following a class teaching how to draw the sound out of the cymbal. We spent an hour on this. When she was about to leave I said "Don't forget your cymbal."
She was stoked. The cymbal was brand new. I got it for free as part of an endorsement.
