  1. I probably answered this back in 2012BC (Before Corona :D), but in essence, I build outside the "norm" or popular subjects. With a few exceptions, my aircraft tend to gravitate towards things like the Hs129, P-39, most anything Italian and most Soviet. I build very few jets unless I love them which basically is the A-10, F-4, and F-14. I guess I have a thing for the ugly and the beasts!

My armor is similar. I built all the popular stuff in my teens, so now I gravitate towards the more obscure subjects for dioramas. Halftracks, US tank destroyers, Italian armor, German armored cars, etc...

I do try to build what Italian equipment I can find in my chosen scales, but mostly because it's unique and rarely ever represented.

I have had it on good authority from a reliable "sauce" it will be Monday 9th November, just after lunchtime.

There, you can all stop worrying now.

    :D

But who's lunchtime? Will that be the 9th in Australia, or here in New York? Will the Joker get away with it? Are the Caped Crusaders doomed? Tune in tomorrow....

I'm not clear what you would like put to an end, the drift or this thread? There are good arguments for the answer to be both

Not I, but the post I replied to. My point was that I trust the admins to control how a thread runs. Off topic, on topic, or anything in between. This is one of the few sites I returned to after a long hiatus strictly because the admins do a great job.

    Guys,

I have to say that I'm a bit hacked off that this thread has not stayed on track. Overnight I got something like 15 new posts - all of which I looked at in case there was something new of interest about Wingnut kits - instead,it was just chat about previously owned cars. You might've enjoyed it but it wasted my time. Consequently I will now switch off the notification for new posts on this thread and I've done what Pup7309 suggested and set up an account on WW1aircraft models. If you want to char about off topic matters then maybe use should start a new thread?

I have to say I agree, yet not, with your statement. I turned my notifications off for every topic years ago. As much as off topic notifications can be annoying, so too can the 4 million speculations based on "I know a guy, who knows a guy, who knows a guy". Starting a new thread would be appropriate, but once things start rolling, it can be like a runaway train.

Personally, I've learned to control what I can, (notifications or not), and ignore what I can't (the path a thread may take). No disrespect intended, but how a thread is controlled is strictly up to the admins and moderators. The reason I re-activated my profile on this forum, is because the aforementioned admins keep a good, even hand on what happens here. That being said, (and playing devil's advocate), I'd like to think they would have put an end to it.

  5. I acquired one as well, but years ago I had also purchased one of JR's right after the molds were sold so the quality wasn't as good. Now that ZM has made one, I'm very fortunate to have kept all the resin, PE and decals from the other since my goal is an Eastern Front bird as well.

There's a possibility, (slight), that someone here or even on the dreaded ebay may have them and not need/want them.

Since I was gone for very long, I'm not sure if Jerry is still active anymore, but if he is, and if you say please, he might know who made the decals for him originally.

Not much help, but just a suggestion.

Of course, you could just wait patiently......(lol)

  6. For me it has more to do with either the aircraft being an "underdog" on the popularity scale, such as the P-39 or HS129, almost everything Italian or Soviet, and more importantly, if the diorama muse strikes me. Same goes for armor. I built the generic M4 Sherman, Tiger, Panther, P-51, Me109, etc. as a teen, so now I expand my horizons.

  7. Beautiful work, (as usual)! A question though, do you blend your shading, or just paint very thin lines of your shadow/highlight shades? I've been playing with it both ways lately, and it seems that the "straight line" method works best for fabric folds.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks Jerry, and please continue posting your work. I get a lot of inspiration from you old 82nd farts!

  8. Btw, Shan, if you have the "Live After Death" album, with the liner notes, (boy doesn't THAT make me sound old!), it should have the list of dates & venues. Our town was misspelled as Glenn Falls, NY. It's actually Glens Falls.

On a side note, you know you've raised your 23 year old son right when you have to hunt him down to get you Maiden CDs back!

  9. thanks, Amazing to know that Eddie Rocked Desert Storm?

Awesome! Eddie rocked Desert Storm in more ways than one. Maiden is my second favorite band, right behind Black Sabbath, and one of the best concerts I ever saw, (World Slavery Tour. Right after Powerslave was released). We played Killers, Number of the Beast and Powerslave constantly. Once the orders were given to enter Iraq, the 3 songs we played the most in our Humm-Vees on our "boom box" were Invaders, 2 Minutes to Midnight and Run to the Hills.

  10. Thanks for all the kind words. I'm slowly incorporating my attention to detail into my aircraft builds. Since my garage/man cave is currently undergoing a remodel, (which will allow me to add my second hobby of HO railroading to the fold), I'll try to go through and see what I may have posted of my builds.

On a side note, so far my aircraft displays are the typical "sitting on the flight line" kind of thing. I'm going to attempt changing that by adding a little bit at a time.

  11. Excellent, love the detail, extra straps and superb painting, well done.

I often wonder about the wisdom of tyres on the front as they cut down visibility, though not as much as when they drop the armour. we used to have land rovers in the RAF and used to chuck them in the back as you couldn't see squat over them

I put a lot of thought into that before I mounted it there. We had a similar issue in Desert Storm with our Humm-Vee spares. The 1st generation had no tire rack on the rear, and we couldn't mount them to the rear hatch, (would interfere with the hatch locks), and there was no place inside with all the ammo and gear, so we mounted them on the hood, but off-set as I did here. My driver figured it would double as an impromptu sandbag of sorts.

I tried to put it as close to the right edge as possible. This keeps the fighting compartment clear, gives additional small arms protection, and allows decent forward visibility.

Besides, it gave me an excuse to have a standing figure! :P

  12. Ironically, I'm just the reverse. I've been building armor and armor dioramas for years and only started back into aircraft within the last 18 months. One thing I do love about armor versus aircraft is the number of display options.

Aircraft have a limited number of options, just simply because of the nature of the equipment.

Armor, however, is limited only by the imagination! Mud or nor mud? In action or at rest? Crew or no crew, etc...

I think you'll find it quite enjoyable. Maybe not a full change over, but a nice distraction.
