  1. I can't help but think the Mosquito with no engines and a 50% price reduction would have done much better sales wise. Revell were knocking out basic Beaufighters and Mosquitoes for decades. A quality, unsophisticated basic Tamiya update could have done the same I feel.
  2. The one immediate advantage I can see compared to the ZM kit, is that Tamiya have correctly portrayed the inter-canopy arch as the widest part of the structure. ZM have parallel canopy rails which look odd if you know the subject. Also the windscreen looks like it's part of the forward nose structure which again is a nice bonus for delineating the transparent portion properly.
  3. Thanks Guy. I'll bear those in mind.
  4. Yep, I have. Them and Premium Hobbies are my normal go to places. I'm getting worried now they also won't have the Swedish colours by the time the JetMads Viggen is released.
  5. I'm browsing through the stash and gravitating to either the Revell Hunter or Hasegawa F-104G for an upcoming build. Having been ex-loop for some time I've been restocking paint and found the MRP line to both look good to me, and have a good reputation. But I'm stuck on the underside colours mentioned in the title, as MRP suppliers in the UK are out of stock and have been for months. So my question is about substitutes. Many online builds seem to go for a plain Humbrol 11 type silver, but my impression is that both silvers are a slightly greyed version rather than an overly bright silver. I'd like out of the bottle/tin suggestions for the sake of uniformity if I need to revisit the schemes on other subjects later on.
  6. MSN 1523 which became F-4D 65-0600 MSN 1531 which became F-4D 65-0603. MSN 1513 which became F-4D 65-0596 and MSN 1600 which became F-4D 65-0630 which went to Republic of Korea The USAF type spine refuelling doors are visible on the enlarged photo. I've got an image of a chart somewhere I got from either Ron Downey's site or maybe Tommy Thomason's some years ago which tied construction numbers up with USAF serials and BuNos as appropriate, but buggered if I can lay hands on it right now.
  7. It'll be in the Navy/Marine inventory for decades so I guess that's why. Dutch modeller hpetiers on this forum did a highly creditable job of turning the sow's ear of the Revell F-18E into a silk-like purse here
  8. The Turkish F-4E Terminator upgrades were mostly internal electronics, with perhaps pylon upgrades if required for carriage of the Popeye missile and a large black blade aerial on the spine. As you're not bothering with the cockpit the other upgrades can be ignored. One thing I would recommend though is the GT resin replacement nose. Neither the Revell F-4G nor F-4E noses are well portrayed, being too skinny
  9. Exactly so. The awful injustice of the 'combined' present. And there's nothing you can do to appeal it.
  10. On this day which is very special to many of us, I thought it worth taking a moment to offer our collective condolences to our modelling companions listed over on the right who have their birthdays fall on Christmas Day. Thoughts and prayers people. Thoughts and prayers.
  11. I've all but given up on the Bf 109 G-10 Erla, globally. Even asked Revell if they had the upper inner wings as spare parts, but no luck there either.
  12. That's a really great looking Phantom. One to be proud of.
  13. Logistics are becoming more complicated than was the case. From 12 mile lorry queues on both sides of the channel, to trucking companies being completely unprepared for new customs requirements. There is also an issue with European lorry drivers not being willing to risk the dead time that waiting for clearances introduces when their business needs to be moving as fast as possible from pick up to their destinations. The near universal just-in-time delivery model, just will not work for brexit UK.
  14. That looks great. Did you need aftermarket for the instrument panel?
  15. I may be wrong, but I believe printing offers a finer resolution than acid etch can. Though laser etching may do it, I have no experience of that. I'm working on a decal self-printing option, which I'm refining for a hopefully one piece option. A scan of your modified aft ramp with included dimensions (in mm) would be helpful, if possible. It may take a day or three however, with my rusticated and now almost dormant post-retirement graphic skills.
  16. That would resurrect many Revell F-4s Ali. If the clear hood parts were full depth, and designed so resin frames could be inserted after painting and detailing, that would be ideal.
  17. Does the (lack of) dihedral problem not suggest the fault is in the wing strut lengths?
  18. Did you note that the Revell empennage chute opening is about twice as wide as the Tamiya one, Cees? With Tamiya one looking much more correct.
  19. Stolen from Tommy Thomason's blog here Points to note are the shallower angle of the lower intake spill duct profile, and the different pattern of the intake suction bleed holes. I've thought about using a grayscale printed decal for those, but haven't actually researched which setting would give the best dot pattern.
  20. The section on the right right abutting the jet nozzles would make a worthwhile correction for the Tamiya kit.
  21. I'm not sure some of your assumptions are right Anthony. I asked a Duxford volunteer to take some comparison measurements for me and these are the results. The yellow dots are the data points to avoid the problem of measuring the curved edges. The central figures are the verticals (A-B; C-D) I'm not entirely visually convinced of the 5.5cm* difference between A-D and B-C, but thems the data. *(On reflection, it may be a typo and meant to read 51.5 as per the F-4J and identical as per the lower edge measurement. Visually that seems much more consistent)
  22. Don't lose heart. IIRC my Rapide took about 6 weeks.
  23. Just in case you haven't Max, you need to click on 'letters' then find GB in the 'Nouns' column menu'.
  24. I ordered from the UK on the 7th Nov, and it arrived today 28 Nov. I was concerned when it tracked to Langley HWDC (Heathrow Worldwide Distribution Centre) which can have a reputation as a bit of a black hole on the 27th. but no, it was delivered to me next day. I used the Polish postal tracking system number (ending in PL) and it updated fairly quickly when it flipped to the Royal Mail tracking page.
  25. Amongst other plans, a line up of first generation supersonics is one. Mirage III - check, F-104 check, MiG-21 - check, EE Lightning - check, so a J-35 would be very welcome.
