Nice start, this is one of my favourite part of any build, assembling and detailing the multitude of parts, but then comes the tricky bits.

It really is Trumpeter's finest engineering feat, so it's a joy to build. I've done both as well and really enjoyed the process on each.

If you google "Britmodeller Taranto" you should get more hits as the search engine on the site is not that good.

That looks great Kev, the patchy/faded look is very convincing to my eyes.

dennismcc got a reaction from Archimedes in Supermarine Spitfire Mk1a (mid), P9386, (Kotare 32001)
Hi Paul, impressive research, you have convinced me, as well as the timing of the moves the big point for me was flying around in a Spitfire with a yellow nose with yellow nosed 109s all around, a bit like the early American markings with the red dot inside the star and the red in the British roundels in the far East.
If I build this particular airframe then mine could have a white nose as well.
A brave move on painting componants prior to building, that would scare me but different strokes for different folks.
I use Xtracolor all the time and thin it 50/50 with Xtracolor's own thinner and use about 20 psi on my airbrush.
Yes, I am from Ellesmere Port just across the Mersey from Liverpool.
Keep up the good work.

I am so impressed with that, build, paint, weathering the lot, all top notch. If I ever win the lottery and have a bigger house I would buy one of those.

Yes modelling day it is here as well, but the rain held off long enough for me to do some cycling for the first time since my hand operation, it was nice to get back in the swing of things but I will have to modify my handlebars a bit, there is not enough sweepback for my wrists to be comfortable.

dennismcc reacted to mozart in MDC Hawker Typhoon W/Cdr R E P Brooker
Could I live with the wonky non-horizontal stabiliser? Of course not… it was barely discernible and nobody else would know, but it would offend my eye every time I looked at the Tiffie, so some surgical razor saw work and off it came!
I have now pinned it and it’s back it place looking fine….phew! Easier to fix than I feared it might be.
And this innocuous photo:
….is a morning’s work. I had to drill out the old off-centre c**k up and ream out enough space for Mk II. This comprises the front plastic disc (necessary because the half circular faces of the fuselage weren’t even, nor are they circular, so had to be sanded flat) with a short length of 3mm dia plastic tube attached behind. Running through the centre of this is the brass outer tubing, all held in place with UV glue. The spinner is now a reasonable, but not perfect, fit.
Some further work is needed blending the disc in to the fuselage front, but it’s better than before. Topping and tailing eh….all in an exciting day’s work at the bench.

Good luck with recovery Dennis, must be frustrating but at least you’re able to get out.
Last week at the eastern end of Rutland Water, e-bikes rule….love it!

Back to your build Paul, I'm interested to see you using the Humbrol paints.. Obviously Airfix always call out these colours and I have used the acrylic versions (and in the dim and distant past, the enamels), quite a lot.
With the advent of the MRPs and Vallejos etc., they are seem to be somewhat out of vogue - but I still think there's a place for them.
I must admit, I find these Kotare kits very addictive - they give you a lovely level of detail, but also the opportunity to get quite a quick build in with no engine.
Hope you're finding the same!

As ever, I'm going to be unfashionable, in that I like the look of the yellow spinner and may just do mine yellow when I build this plane - for that simple reason!

It's great that you are persevering Max, and doing a really fine job of it, the kit does comes out well in the end, even though it is a bit of a character building exercise.
This is my ancient Revell build with the MDC version.

RIP to a fine aviator. Very sad to read about this.

Righto, Hasegawa Mustang on final approach. Finally.
Flat coat done with most of the silvering chased away. Undercarriage finished off and fitted. Fiddly bits being finished.
Still a few things to do, but the only thing that remains as a challenge is fitting the sliding portion of the canopy. It doesn't really fit properly in the closed position, so I'll have to pose it open (which was the plan all along). But it doesn't sit properly when slid back, either! As the fuselage narrows towards the read of the cockpit, the front of the canopy obviously doesn't pinch in to accommodate this, and so just drapes down over the fuselage. I'll snap another photo to show what I mean, but I really don't know how to address it.

Very sad news, it does remind us that flying these aircraft can be dangerous, but like others I love to see them in their natural element rather than as dusty static exhibits.
