Dave Williams
First, some pictures from airliners.net, which are little more helpful as you can see the spine from different angles and in overall views, instead of in closeups. http://www.airliners.net/photo/USA-Navy/Boeing-F-A-18E-Super-Hornet/5182149/L?qsp=eJwtjLEKwkAQBf9layUEQSSdFrZaWNosu48YjN6xtxCPkH/3LtrNmwczk4S34%2BO3HEEdJbDJgzYU2fiVqJvpiTwF08J0vje8bQ8ofwrmp1ycsuMogujQv7%2BYwuqFJGuqr%2Bm2Iuz6W7t9mTqkOPJagfMw0rJ8Ab5ULww%3D http://www.airliners.net/photo/USA-Navy/Boeing-F-A-18E-Super-Hornet/4924983/L?qsp=eJwtjLEKwkAQBf9layWoIJJOC1stUtostw8NRu/YXdAj5N%2B9S%2BzmzYMZKcS34%2BtdTqCWDKzhQStKrPwyakd6In%2BiSmE63xpebw4ov0X1Uy5O2HEMAckhf39RgdYLFubUvaa3FaHXZe32ZUpvaeC5Aud%2BoGn6Ab56Lw0%3D http://www.airliners.net/photo/USA-Navy/Boeing-F-A-18E-Super-Hornet/4437125/L?qsp=eJwtjLEKwkAQBf9layWIIpJOC1stUtostw8NRu/YXdAj5N%2B9S%2BzmzYMZKcS34%2BtdTqCWDKzhQStKrPwyakd6In%2BiSmE63xpebw4ov0X1Uy5O2HEMAckhf39RgdYLFubUvaZ3FaHXZW33ZUpvaeC5Aud%2BoGn6Ab7GLw8%3D http://www.airliners.net/photo/USA-Navy/Boeing-F-A-18E-Super-Hornet/2151835/L?qsp=eJwtjLEKwkAQBf9la0WCYCSdFrZaWNostw8NRu/YXdAj5N9zF%2B3mzYMZKcS34%2BvXnEAdGVjDg1aUWPll1I30RP5ElcJ0um143exRfovqx1ycsOMQApJD/v6sAq0XLCype003bWXo5Te3uzKltzTwkoFzP9A0zen8L0M%3D http://www.airliners.net/photo/USA-Navy/Boeing-F-A-18E-Super-Hornet/2146106/L?qsp=eJwtjLEKwkAQBf9layUEQUI6LWy1sLRZdh8xGL1jb0GPkH/3LtrNmwczk4SX4%2BPXHEE9JbDJnTYU2fiZqJ/pgfwOpoXpdGt423Yofwrmx1ycsuMggujQvz%2BbwuqFJGtqqOm2qwy7/OZuX6aOKU68ZuA8TrQsX%2BoiL0Q%3D http://www.airliners.net/photo/USA-Navy/Boeing-F-A-18E-Super-Hornet/1088065/L?qsp=eJwtjLEKwkAQBf9layWKIJJOC1stUtost48YjN6xu6BHyL97F9LNmwczUYgfx8%2B7nEAtGVjDkzaUWPlt1E70Qv5GlcJ0fTS83Z9Qfovql1ycsOMcApJDVn9TgdYLFpZUX9OHXWXofZ3HMmWwNPKSgfMw0jz/AelALz4%3D Luca and Scotsman

Dave Williams
Installed (not glued down yet). I need to spray some primer on to get rid of the reflections and shine from the lights. Darren Howie and Out2gtcha

Dave Williams
Moving onto other areas, the rear of the fuselage. The diamond shaped grills in front of the exhausts are much too big. It looks like they used the dimensions of the red RBF cover, which is much larger than the grill itself. The corresponding diamond grill on the underside are smaller and seem closer to the right size. Some have mentioned that the exhausts are too far apart, but I’m not really seeing that. Dave Williams
The bump where the LERX transitions into the wing root seems a little sharp. Out2gtcha
Dave Williams
The adapter pylon for the AN/ASQ-228 seems much too large (or the pod itself is much too small).
Dave Williams
The cockpit is pretty lame for the scale. Minimal raised detail. Decals are included, but there isn’t much there if you want to paint the IP and consoles. Also, the cockpit sidewalls are completely bare, plus have a horizontal seam running through the sidewall since the lower half of the cockpit sidewall is part of the nose halves and the top part of the sidewall is part is the upper fuselage/LERX piece. There are no rudder pedals, or even a front wall for the cockpit tub. Edited February 21, 2019 by Dave Williams Out2gtcha
Dave Williams
The plastic is very soft. When holding one side of some of the larger sprues, the rest of the sprue will bend under the weight of the parts. On my kit, the sprue with the nose gear was fairly twisted up, with detrimental effects to the nose gear shaft. Out2gtcha
Dave Williams
Interesting internal detail for triangular air scoops are on the lower fuselage sides aft of the MLG wells. There are external parts that go over these that provides what you normally see in pictures. Edited February 21, 2019 by Dave Williams D.B. Scotsman
Thanks for that David, as ever , you get what you pay for , I've seen the kit online for around £50, less than half of the Trumpeter kit , but it really looks like a resin Pit is going to be needed , and the quality of the plastic doesn't hold out much promise re the long term robustness of the Undercarriage .. Paging GFactor!!! But you know the model might look rather fetching in Blue angels colours.. Just saying ...
thierry laurent
Thanks very much Dave. I am still waiting for mine. The positive aspect of that basic pit is the fact we will at last get a resin one for the Superbug!
reconspit
...well, thanks for the review of the „problem areas“.... I really like the kit, the spine-problem is hardly noticeable..., i‘m really keen to get one and you’ll definitely get a great looking Super Hornet from it.... thierry laurent
I'll have a look when my kit will arrive but the more I look at the pictures, the less I am convinced the kit spine is "dramatically flawed"...!
