I've had this kit kicking around in the stash for something like 10 years, wondering what to do with it. It's outclassed by the Trumpeter offering and not worth putting 100 dollars of aftermarket in it, so I might as well just build it as is. I'm thinking of doing a stand and posing it in a flying configuration, but the pilot supplied is pretty much a plastic blob, so if someone has the Trumpeter kit and doesn't want the pilot, drop me message. I've also pinched 4 sidewinders from an old Revell F-4E kit which will be good enough to stand in for R-3S/AA-2A Atoll missiles (they were pretty much exact copies, reversed engineered off a captured AIM-9B). The kit was given to me half built, hence why two are already glued, but they need some work to fix.

I will build 'Red 5040', a camouflaged MiG 21 used for night operations and the aircraft flown by Major Pham Tuan, who, on the night of December 26th 1972, reportedly became the only man to shoot down a B-52 Stratofortress in air to air combat, firing 4 R-3S missiles at his target. Tuan was awarded the Order of Lenin and is one of only a few outsiders to be awarded the title, Hero of the Soviet Union. He also became the first Vietnamese person in space on July 23rd 1980 aboard Soyuz 37.  He retired a Lieutenant General.

Do u have any idee about what colour to use on te pit?

Mark

I will be using a 50/50 mix of Gunze H46 emerald green and H25 sky blue. That should give you a very close shade of turquoise to that used in the Eduard pre painted photo etch. I got this off a website that I can't find again, lucky I wrote it down.

Mark, they are a turquoise blue  like a light blue green/green blue. Model Master makes a color called turquoise that with a couple small drops of light green and drop or two of gray should be right on. I'll let Teresa explain her mix when she figures it out.

Hi Mark and Brad

I used Model Master Turquoise straight but it just seamed a little to blue to me so I added two tiny drops of Model Master Lightgrun green, and a few large drops of Model Master Flat White, and I am very happy how the color turned out.  :D

I think no matter what you end up using as paint for the most part you can get a good end result.

I just kind of experimented with my color mixing. The trick is that you make enough to cover everything you need to cover because it is a pain to try to get the right color again or not getting the recipe right a second time. I almost didn't make enough..Yikes!  Note to self: Think about how much you have to cover BEFORE mixing

You and Brad would know better than me about that, I am new at this but I thought I would share anyway.

Sounds like Brad has a good mix as well :)

My best to you my friend and Thanks Brad for sharing!

Teresa, I've found it useful to use a glass eyedropper for mixing paint, that way you can keep track of how many drops of x paint to y paint and if you run out, mixing another batch is easy. Any chemist should sell them.

I've made a small start gluing bits together. I've decided to mount it on a stand and Mark31 has kindly offered his Trumpeter MiG 21 pilot as the one in the kit is pretty much a plastic blob. I'm afraid this build won't be too heavy on detail like some others cos there isn't much detail in the kit.
