LSP_Kevin
Inspired by Vaughn's immense Minbari fighter project, and a bit fed up with all my current aircraft builds, I decided to break out my remaining Babylon 5 kit and distract myself with it. I have had so little time for modelling of late though that even an ostensibly 'simple' build like this one is taking an eternity (or so it seems). This won't be a build thread as such, though I may post some more in-progress shots. It's really just to make me feel like I'm building something and have something to show for it! There will of course be glamour shots at the end. For now, just this: Kev Uilleann, Out2gtcha, moksha and 1 other

LSP_Kevin
Thanks fellas. This one's been inching forward here and there. Assembly-wise this kit is pretty straightforward (and much better than their Star Fury kit!), but it's a bit of a bugger to paint. Not only that, but I've been trying to come to grips with Lifecolor paint for the first time, and I still haven't cracked the secret to airbrushing the stuff. They seem to brush paint better than they airbrush, which is a truly rare thing for an acrylic paint! (I'm finding Vallejo a bit that way too.) Anyway, I've got the main hull ready for stickers (and the R/M decals really are like vinyl stickers!), so hopefully I can get a progress photo or two up during this coming week. LSP_Kevin
Well folks, here's this week's token modelling update: While I think this is a better kit than the Star Fury they released, it's still not great (are there really any great sci-fi kits out there?). The decals are like vinyl stickers, the fit of parts is serviceable but alignment is poor in places, and the painting guide differs from both the box art and the photos of the built-up model on the back of the box. The biggest worry though is that the panel decals are purple, while the box art and model photos show them as blue! So I have a purple Babylon 5 station instead of a blue one. Still, it doesn't matter much for this build, and I think it'll still look quite interesting when it's finished. Not that far to go actually! Lee White
Kev, if they are stickers, could you carefully peel them off, paint the appropriate blue, then re-apply them as masks?
LSP_Kevin
Kev, if they are stickers, could you carefully peel them off, paint the appropriate blue, then re-apply them as masks? Nah, they're actually normal waterslide decals, but thick, stiff and printed on something that looks like clear packaging tape. And the wrong colour! LSP_K2
The purple is a bit strange.
Nessus
In answer to are there any really great sci if kits, and I presume you mean fit, pretty much all the Fine Molds stuff ( with the possible exception in their 1/72 Millenium Falcon shape wise), the Aingrand Star Wars kits, anything made by Industria Mechanika and recently the 1/72 Gunstar 1 moulded by Blap! Models. Plenty to choose from for sure! Not to mention any HG or higher grade Gundam kit from Bandai and the new Ma.K stuff from Hasegawa. LSP_Kevin
The purple is a bit strange. Yeah, ain't it what. It's supposed to be a blue close to what I've used on the circular portion of the base. Kev

I have to confess to not being vastly experienced when it comes to sci-fi kits. Gundam doesn't interest me in the slightest, and the Fine Molds stuff is way out of my price range. Mostly I've been exposed to the old AMT and Revell/Monogram kits, though I do have a couple of Polar Lights 1/1000 Enterprise kits. Kev
LSP_Kevin
OK folks, I'm calling this one done. Not quite the quick 'n' easy build I was hoping for, but I think it's turned out OK. Not easy to photograph! As alluded to earlier, the colours are all wrong but it'll stay that way now. I'll try to get some glamour shots another time, but weather doesn't allow it at the moment. Apologies for the highly-abridged 'build' thread! Kev Hogzilla and Uncarina
LSP_Kevin
One more: A bit of a crude effort in Photoshop that will tide me over until I can take better photos. Kev Uncarina, Smokey and Hogzilla
