Daywalker Posted October 10, 2012 Posted October 10, 2012 I like it very much so far! Especially the seatbelts, and the wear they have made on the seat- nice touch. I would say this is shaping up to be a winner!
viperfixer Posted October 24, 2012 Author Posted October 24, 2012 Did more then drinking beer and sleeping last two weekend. Between that I also did some modeling. Doesn't look like much but it was actually quite a lot of work. Applied a wash to the landing gear legs and dull-coated them. Still need to make the brake line. Wheels need some more work so they're not glued yet, that's why they're not flush with the tires. Prepared the propeller. Primed and sanded and with a coat of aluminium. Tomorrow I hope to paint the black. Separate panels and gear doors painted, not all of them are shown here. They still need a dull coat, but I will do that together with the rest of the plane. Forgot an ejector pin mark on this one. It bothers me, but it's to much work to fix now. They're also inside the tail wheel doors. I consider it a lesson learned. Glued the gun fairings in place, the fit was terrible! Looks like they were made for a wing with a smaller thickness or something, don't know if that's correct. Slimmer wing maybe? Bothers me too but there was nothing i could do about it. Hopefully it won't look too bad with the paint on. Also corrected the harness buckles. Looks like it's floating in mid air here, but it can be easily be pushed down, so no problem here. Starting to get a bit dusty in there already it looks! Some initial work on the engine that was done already earlier. Not glued yet of course. Still a lot to do here. For the rest I've been working on the plane itself to get it ready for primer. The windscreen still needs to be glued, but after that I'm almost there and then I can see how the seams look. Got two weeks off from work now so I should be making a lot of progress during this time, maybe even getting close to finishing this great plane! So more updates soon!
viperfixer Posted October 28, 2012 Author Posted October 28, 2012 Primed!! Now I have to sand everything and check if there's still parts that need a bit putty. Already noticed the wings leading edges needs some more work. But most of it is good so it's almost time for the aluminium coat.
Out2gtcha Posted October 28, 2012 Posted October 28, 2012 Looks nice! You dont see too many of the trumpy bubble-tops being built. You're certainly doing this one justice!
viperfixer Posted October 29, 2012 Author Posted October 29, 2012 Well, it took a lot of putty, primer sanding and cleaning, but I got it done! First time I applied a bare metal finish to a model plane with Alclad and an airbrush, and I must say I'm pretty happy with the result. When I first got the paint on there were still a lot of scratches visible but after some polishing most of that went away too. Thought I had a very smooth surface but I guess it can always be done better, but you can't sand on forever, right? You can still see scratches when you look from certain angles, but overall it looks pretty smooth. And luckily it's dust-free, that stuff dries so fast that dust doesn't stand a chance! I was also a bit worried about the upper fuselage part behind the cockpit, because the fit wasn't very good, but it turned out alright. There's also some more imperfections because of fit issues, but they're mostly on the underside so you don't really see them. Anyway, see for yourself, here are some pics! Not easy to photograph the metal, tried different lights and this is the best I could do, hope you get the idea. Alright, that's it for now, still a lot to do, but an important bridge is crossed now. Guest Peterpools Posted October 29, 2012 Posted October 29, 2012 Terrific progress on the Jug and the NMF is looking real good. Peter.
Out2gtcha Posted October 31, 2012 Posted October 31, 2012 (edited) NICE! Looks good 2 me! Hell, the real one was probably scratched up WAY worse than anything you have on yours. Not easy to photograph the metal, tried different lights and this is the best I could do, hope you get the idea. I find sometimes natural out-door light is really good for photographing NMFs. Not particularly direct or even bright sunlight, but a slight overcast or very non direct sun-light or clouds can make the finish really come alive. One taken outside on a semi-cloudy day - I think I actually like the Trumpy bubble top better than their razorback that everyone (except me) loves so much. Every thing looks really great so far on your build, and looks like youre already seeing light at the end of the tunnel! Looking forward to the next update! viperfixer Posted October 31, 2012 Author Posted October 31, 2012 Thanks for the tip and the nice comments, Brian! The metal on your pic does look very good, I'll try making pics outside tomorrow. Been working on the plane all day and the sun is pretty low already now. Are you currently working on this one too? It looks great! Painted the anti-glare olive drab and the invasion stripes on the wings so far today, maybe some indoor-pics later.

Shes been done for years now..............as a matter of fact its one of my first attempted foiling jobs. Youll have to share some pics of the stripes and anti-glare!
viperfixer Posted November 1, 2012 Author Posted November 1, 2012 Ok, time for a little update. Lot of time spent on masking and painting, Not all went good. When I removed the masking tape of the fuselage invasion stripes I tore off some of the white paint. When trying to fix this I not only had a color difference in the white, but also tore off a lot of black paint when removing the tape. Big setback, I had hoped to finish that today. To compensate for this I painted the yellow on the rudder and propeller tips, to get some sense of achievement. I will see what I can make of the black and white tomorrow, hopefully I can fix it and still make it look proper. The olive drab, stripes on the wings and the black parts on the horizontals are done, I used Gunze paint for this, worked very good. Where it went wrong: one tip needs a little touch- up, and the center needs to be painted Oh yes, also painted the one landing gear door that had black and white on it. So when I manage to fix the damage it's time for decals and a final coat and then I can remove the rest of the masking tape and focus on the rest of the parts like the landing gear (almost finished), engine (far from finished), and armament (not even started). Still a lot to do, but I'm getting somewhere!
LSP_Kevin Posted November 1, 2012 Posted November 1, 2012 Bugger about the setback mate, but it's looking pretty good! Kev
viperfixer Posted November 2, 2012 Author Posted November 2, 2012 Ok, the damage is fixed and it's hardly visible anymore. Only a bit color difference in the white, but I didn't dare to repaint that with the change of more paint damage. Hopefully with a wash and the dull coat it will look good. After that I applied a floor wax coat, so the paint is save now. So the most of the painting for this build is done! Also got the first decals on, so I'm moving straight ahead now. . Patient on the table. After the operation. Next update after finishing the decals, hopefully within a day or 2. Wurzacher 1
