Bill Cross
Nothing on my Trumpeter P-47D Razorback says what color to paint the 500 lb. bombs. Black? I have seen photos with chipped black over yellow primer. TIA.

D.B. Andrus
Yes, OD for USAAF. Some fin sections were left in ZC yellow, but very few. HTH, D.B.

Bill Cross
What are the rust-colored rings around the center? You guys are the best!
Jim Starling
good shots. I see that I have been remiss in always painting bombs in clean and unfaded, unstained new OD. Shows that I need to weather bombs just as much as I do aircraft.
LSP_K2
What are the rust-colored rings around the center? You guys are the best! If I'm not mistaken, those are stains from the hard rubber (or perhaps metal), rings installed at the factory to facilitate rolling the bombs. wunwinglow
I suspect those rust-coloured rings are rings of rust.... Tim

RT-14
And I always thought they were race-color red sparkle.... Great link http://www.criticalp...anks-on-trolley I've often wondered what kind of trolley was used to load wing bombs on the '47. And I too, have been guilty of painting them up pretty in OD with no weathering...pristine yellow nose rings... But I'm learning...old dog, new tricks... This is not too shabby eh? Bombs look scuffed up, rusty, and vari-colored as in the real thing. Edited August 7, 2012 by RT-

Tony T
Here are a couple of period color photos: Cheers D.B. I always believed that the drop tanks were not pressed sheet metal but made of paper (sort of cardboard-to-papier mache) and then sprayed aluminium. Two guys sitting on them seems to have splashed that theory! Tony T
