  1. Thanks - I made it awhile ago, would edit it slightly differently now with a few more cuts. Might do a special one on the Falcon Heavy soon...
  2. My own video I made awhile ago celebrating the Shuttle and Saturn V - but I'm more excited about the future with BFR from SpaceX:
  3. Bases? I prefer inflight, since I'm building aircraft and not a car.... half kidding, but that's my schtick... I use Flightpose most of the time (usually with mismatched rod lengths to get a dynamic pose) or the Tamiya 1/32 flight stand, but also sometimes build a base out of a large figure block (turned wood or octagaon/hexagon shape) with bent acrylic rod in a pose.
  4. 3.5 years ago, so only just after I started the hobby.... 1/32 Hasegawa FW190D9....
  5. The best panzer is a knocked out panzer, watchly eagerly...
  6. I'll be using Tamiya's Mk VIII with my Grey Matters kit. As I was building my stock VIII earlier this year (RAAF NMF) I had a few test dry fits and it looks at first glance to not be a problem. The clipped wingtips are included in the Tamiya kit as well, and of course, its much better detailed than anything else out there. I hope to make a start at it sometime later this year, want to build a couple more 1/32 kits first and maybe a practice 1/72 resin kit to get more used to dealing with that medium.
  7. Easy. Premiere of Beethovens 9th Symphony. To be there at the end when the totally deaf Beethoven had to be turned around to see the standing ovation.... All other history is just noise. This is magic....
  8. I second Horizon Models Dale - an Australian company to boot! Here's my review of their Atlas rocket:
  9. The only thing I dont like about the current space race is I'm 20 years too old to contribute..... Probably the most exciting time to be a 20-something aeronautical engineer, in history!!!!
  10. "kinda silly" We make plastic models in our spare time gentlemen....there's no currency to then complain that displaying nose art or the like is "kinda silly"
  11. Lots of whining and whinging in this community when a superlative kit is introduced, yet lots of glossing over of obvious faults, fit problems, crappy engineering and shape issues when poor kits are introduced... Just an observation. I don't care, I'll get one (or more - great basis for a Super/Goodyear Corsair) and enjoy the **** out of building, painting and weathering what are probably the best kits you can get in styrene....
  12. Brilliant is all I can say....great idea using the target as the base - makes the composition really stand out!
  13. I'm getting more interested in what's coming out from Bandai - apparently they have a few new Star Wars kits under wraps ready for release!
  14. Looking great Colin! Try using Tamiya's Titanium gold or silver as a dry brushing effect over the NMF alclad. It leaves lovely in scale scratches and burnishing.
  15. Thanks everyone, Ive been working hard on my basic techniques and pilot painting for my inflight birds, I feel confident now I can do even more dynamic displays. I love doing the Tamiya 1/32 birds because of how relatively easy they go together, which liberates your mojo to focus on the paint and weathering. This only took 55 or so days to do.. Looking to do the Corsair and then a Zero next, but have several other projects in the wings where I hope to push the boundary of inflight stuff. Thanks again!
  16. I'm loving it, but how about seated? I really want to build some aircraft in flight with a female pilot for my 5 year old daughter...
  17. Thanks Jim! I tried a variation of Matt Doogs experiment of using a chrome/silver base, then doing some marbling of not quite black effects, then applying Alclads on top of that. On top of that in some areas I used very thinned enamel Mig panel line washes, and also some dry brushing (but not to great effect, needs more) with Tamiya Titanium gold/silver to get some patina/oxidation in the metal. Fun experimenting was done on a 1/72 Revell SR-71, which I made a video of here:
  18. Tamiya 1/32 Spitfire Mk VIII RAAF - all markings are painted on using Montex masks, Alclads for natural metal finish, Gunze/Tamiya paints for rest. Pilot and seatbelts are OOB, but head is from Hasegawa P-47 kit. Reference photo included at end, its from a testing unit, aircraft stripped to natural metal, with antiglare panel and white recognition leading edge and tail. I'm kind of happy - again I tried too much, this is only my second finished NMF aircraft model, where I incorporated weathering/scratching/burnishing of the finish for a worn in service look. Was also fun not having to do decals! Learnt enough I think to progress to a bigger NMF bird, maybe the B-25?
  19. That's great Dale - and a great gift from your helper too! I must get back to the P-38 you gave me, I have one or two last little things to do in construction and then I get on with the painting!
  20. Copper State figures are fantastic, I've got all of them... You can get pilots, gunners, other crew, seated/standing and also in action poses: http://www.copperstatemodels.com/main/productsCS/6/2
  21. Thanks - no i didnt seal before using the masks and I did have some of the metallics lift off. I was able to fix it all, but I would add a clear layer next time for sure.
  22. Whoops ive been slacked and haven't uploaded - Im 99% done, just need to add the spinner and pitot tube and repaint the wheel well doors. Here's some more WIP pictures, and then I'll put the finished ones up in the gallery. Gloss black - Gunze GX2 on most surfaces Underside done first: Different panels done in airframe/duralinium Alclads - you can see some of the preshading still coming through here: Whole topside down too: Other angle you can see different panel shades: Polished aluminium added now: White tail, leading edge, antiglare panel and markings on - this is all done with masks, no decals: Antislip added and chipped, some touch up done too:
  23. Mmm. Might have to take back what I said about the kit - great result! Looks like a VIII to me (about to finish the Tamiya one myself) And good weathering and use of references too
  24. Forgot to mention Lee - great build and excellent article, I've saved it for reference, because I happen to have that exact kit and where my lack of concern emanated from...
