There R no revised canopies.
Just cross your fingers and hope you get a decent one.        
 

I rarely have considered any of the older Monogram kits as "coveted" at least to myself, with very few exceptions. One being the 1/48th *SHUDDERS* B-58, but I love that bomber enough to jump over to *THAT* scale to have one. That and all the AM I could get for it. 
I realize I'm probably in the minority re: these older kits, but if I'm brutally honest I just seem to have so little bench time, that unless I'm really passionate (read B-58 here) about a kit, I rarely have the desire to acquire any of these older kits.  
 
For me, it comes down to two things:
- I just don't have the time at the bench to devote to bringing these older kits up to my own standard
- I don't build 1/48th stuff, and they made very few LSPs that dont need heaps of work to brind up to speed. 
 
Obviously others mileage may vary.

IMNSHO, those of us lucky dogs that got our replacement canopies early on, got hand picked ones with less flaws. The one I got is certainly better than the original canopy. 
By now, with the number of canopies being requested and shipped out (I'd imagine lots!), the cream has likely been skimmed from the top and the remaining canopies may not be of higher quality. 

I had the same issue with my WNW Albatros. I contacted WNW about it, and was told by them not to worry about it, the kit was designed that way, and when you attach the cabanes and interplane struts it will pull the lower wings into the correct slight dihedral alignment. So, I followed their instructions and it worked. Although there is a very slight curve in the bottom wing (between the struts), when it should be straight. Since you broke the cabane, I'm not sure you will get the lower wing to pull into the correct dihedral. I'd probably use a good jig, like the one Mike recommends. 

If the "splat" is water, then yes, humidity is your issue. To solve that issue an in-line water trap is advised. If the "splat" is not water, then you have some other issues. It's hard to diagnose your problem without knowing what the "splat" actually consists of.

My box was not taped. It opened pretty easily (which if I were a betting man that was likely the fate of yours). And I must say, the shipping box is so flimsy that if something would have been placed atop it while shipping, it would have been crushed and destroyed. Luckily, mine survived in great shape. Methinks RoG needs to think a little better about shipping stuff.

I have no doubts that RoG will eventually find a US importer/distributor and the P-51 (and others) will be readily available again.     

I have no doubts that I will NOT be able to score the P-51 for $25 shipped to me like I did early this year, once a US importer/distributor gets up and running.

Got both. And both look much improved over the original pieces. Yes, I did specify both clear sprues in my request.
 

I too, am on a Russian jet kick of late. Such brutal looking beasties!!! But, I really don't want them in LSP sizes because those thangs are huge enough in 1/48!!!! Like this one!!!

Nope, not in my case. Just filled out the online form, got an email response from Revell Germany a couple days later that they received my request and I should receive the parts in about two weeks (which is how long it took!). And yep, my new parts have far less distortion than the old parts. A small amount still remains around the frames, but you have to look for it pretty closely to see it. Far better than the original parts.
