  1. Very nice. Wish to hell our nanny state government hadn't banned the Gunze line. I got quite used to using it. I'm about to paint up a Revell Bf-109G10 and will be giving Vellajo a try first.
  2. I'll have to get one of these. I recently picked up the Trump P-40N which has tribute markings for Lt Col. Boris Safonov. Did some reading on him, and seems he started off in Hurricanes and I-16 type 24s. Think I'll do a string of his. I have the Hasegawa P-40E in stores, and a Hurricane as well.
  3. Don't know about the rest of you, but I'd be screaming my head off to get out in about 5 minutes after the back rest came forward. Way too claustrophobic for me.
  4. Got an email from Kitlinx today, with a note that Testors had announced the termination of its product line. Anyone know anything about that?
  5. I'd do a review but unfortunately I have no references on the N model. Not to mention all my reference material still isn't unpacked after 9 years in this dump!
  6. Mike, thanks for the history. Yeah, definitely going to do his aircraft but I have to wonder about the "blue-grey" color mentioned in the article. And a P-40 in the navy? New one to me. Gotta do some more research.
  7. Just picked this up this afternoon. Gotta say, You'd figure Trumpeter would learn from the P-40b cockpit fiasco. Sadly, same thing here. Flat floor and well over the top of the wing surfaces. Looks reaonably detailed but the high cockpit floor sorta detracts from the image. Over all, it looks pretty good, Detail is nice and crisp, the exhaust stacks are separately molded and opened up at the ends. The landing gear looks pretty good, with vinyl tires and there is a good amount of PE to do the flap detailing, harnesses and the radiator fronts. Cowl flaps, open or closed, choice of a drop tank or a bomb. Decals for the four as noted in previous reviews, I'm going to do the Soviet version. Anyone know what For Safonova means? A lost pilot or a town?
  8. I expect the papers will be full of people demanding all warplanes in private hands be put in museums and never be allowed to fly again. My thoughts are with the families of those who died. They were doing what they enjoyed and I'm sure the pilots did their darndest to bring her home again.
  9. All I can say is WOW. But I have to wonder about the stones a man would need to strap that contraption to his back and go off and do his duty.
  10. Id love to see them as well, and let's not forget the Night Witches and their PO-2s
  11. That is looking very cool. I have a set of plans for the German MarineFahrePram (MFP) which was the German version of a tank landing craft. One day (after I kiss this job goodbye) I want to scale them up to 1/35th and build one. It's basically a big box with a ramp on one end, it doesn't even have any curves to speak of.
  12. I picked up one of the old Hasegawa P-51Ds and would like to (someday) try a conversion to the Piper PA-48 COIN bird. I will be needing a set of tanks, haven't found on in a quick search of the internet? Anyone do a set?
  13. If they do one, I'll grab one. And then wait for someone with more skills than mine to do an A-26K conversion.
  14. Meh, I'm having too much fun with IL-2 Battle of Stalingrad, Kuban or Moscow. The graphics aren't as good as those shown but I'll believe they are that good when I actually see them on screen.
  15. yeah I was afraid of that. Oh well, maybe I'll indulge my masochistic nature and build the Combat vac I have in my stash. I suspect some of the aftermarket for the Revell kit could be adapted.
  16. Curious if anyone has heard any rumours about this being rereleased by someone? I'd love to get one but the tech kit is way over priced and the electronics don't do anything for me.
  17. I built a PT-20 for the Champlin Museum in Phoenix AZ when I was doing my last semester at De Vry. I had been in about a dozen times and got to the point I knew everyone and was allowed certain views not accorded to the regular visitors. I built it as a thank you. I wonder where it ended up.
  18. Currently have 3 LSPs on hold. 21st Century conversion of their A6M-22 to an A6M-32. Scratch built Dornier Wal that I have touched in about 5 years now, but still on my list of things to finish Trumpeter A-10. Sort of messed that one up by spilling some MEK on the underside of one of the engine pylons. No detail left at all. I'm still kicking myself over that. Other thing is the aftermarket engine front is too large in diameter to fit into the cowling. Still puzzling that one out. I figure I'm gonna be at a standstill 'til 1 September next year. I retire then. Lots of time and a better mind frame.
  19. I'd say use a liquid mask on them.
  20. Great, Thanks. That makes life a lot easier. I should be able to start rescribing the panel lines in a day or so, still working with wet n dry paper to fill in all the divots in the reformed wing tips and those holes where the screws were put in. I've started to mask the canopy as well but it's taking time. Difficult to do with the trembling in my hands, but bit by bit its getting done. God love bare metal foil. I have the next two days off, its snowing like crazy so I'll put in a of work, and get started on the wheel covers and what not.
  21. Laid on some filler, and let it set. Finally got warm enough that I could use a rattle can of tamiya white primer on it. Still a lot of little things to fill, but its looking good. I think Im going to shoot a coat of aluminum on it, and then try the sprinkled salt chipping routine when I do the color coats. The markings will be generic, unless I come up with some better photos. One question, does anyone know what color the interior framing of the canopy would be? I have the green cockpit, and the blue primer coating aft of the cockpit bulkhead. I suspect it would be the interior green but would appreciate some confirmation.
  22. My Fokker E-111 just arrived and I'm going around trying to find the brass tubing for turnbuckles. So far I haven't found a source in North American that will ship to Canada. Anyone know of one?
  23. I remember those markings on 707s at Pearson Intl in Toronto. Back when i was a pup. Simple but elegant.
  24. A lot of work to fix something which MAY be inaccurate. I'll leave it alone. i also found a paint scheme that is matt black all over. I will most likely go with that as the ones shown are meh.
